In the 96-97 regular season the Jazz scored 103.1 ppg In the 98-99 regular season the Jazz scored 93.3 ppg. This gives us an avg of 98.2 ppg. Karl’s 26.1 ppg during those seasons has him scoring ~ 26.6% of his team’s points. (Strictly per game..not a total number stat) The Lakers over the last two seasons have scored 112.1 ppg and 117.2 ppg respectively. This gives us an avg of 114.65 ppg. LeBron’s 29.6 ppg during those seasons has him scoring ~ 25.8% of his team’s points. (Strictly per game..not a total number stat) Brou’s point about the volume of scoring is technically correct, but probably isn’t a significant enough difference to be up in arms about the disrespect of Karl Malone. Their scoring numbers are comparable. He should’ve focused less on the volume and more just on the fact that LeBron can score at volume from the outside. He’s Malone’s size, but they play nothing alike. Hard to actually compare

@ericthurman1050 Жыл бұрын
Again context. the pace ans scorin, rules and philosophies are drastically different. stats mean nothing without context. go back and watch players from the 70s and 60s shoot from steph curry range. it still counted for 2pts. how many people would have better stats if these rules and pace of play were allowed in their eras?
@4yze Жыл бұрын
At the risk of sounding like a Bron hater, none of this is the point. It isn’t about the player. It’s about the game. It’s like saying Jordan averaged 45/9/8 against the Monstars but only 30/5/6 against the NBA. In the offense that the Jazz ran, with the skill set that the game told Malone he SHOULD and MUST have, in the overall backdrop of the game that Malone played in, The Mailman did X. In a completely different backdrop, with a mandatory skill set that had already changed drastically even by the time LeBron was drafted and more so since (which to his credit he has largely adapted to), Bron did X. You cannot compare the two X’s.
@randallmarcum9998 Жыл бұрын
The game is at a far faster pace nowadays Nick meaning more possessions and thus more opportunities to record counting stats and thus those numbers are never quite fair to players that played in eras with a slower pace
@TheFantasyDad Жыл бұрын
Wrong. Another brain washed fan.
@marcusstrinidad Жыл бұрын
It’s not too much different. Pace during Malone’s MVP years were 90 and todays pace is 98. The game was actually faster in the 70s and 80s but that’s unimportant. So the question is can Karl Malone make up the difference in stats if there were 8 more possessions per game when he played? Odds are, probably not. He couldn’t get enough assists, points and rebounds with 8 more possessions to make up the difference of what LBJ does with about 98 possessions per 48 minutes. The biggest difference is offensive rating where teams have an offensive rating of 115 league wide whereas during Malone’s years were 105 league wide. Offensive rating (points per 100 possessions) disregards tempo and number of possessions in a game. So really todays NBA outscored Malone’s NBA by 10 points per 100 possessions. The league’s offense efficiency might be a bigger explanation of why LBJ’s stats look so much better.

The 8% from three in Malone's MVP years was crazy though 😂 I think a lot of old guys back then would have issues to adapting to the shooter league we have now. Shaq for example one of the greatest ever only made one three point his whole career. In today's NBA all the top big men can shoot. Jokic, KD, Embiid. Not being able to shoot as a big man is a flaw that can be exploited like how they exploit Giannis in the playoffs. Giannis lucky he has Middleton to bale him out but Middleton is just not that consistent

While youre somewhat correct, Karl Malone in no universe would get more assists than lebron. This is completely despicable saying "LeBron without his legendary athleticism, is just Karl Malone." Karl Malone was such a dog in the midrange game. His midrange jumpshot from 6-20 feet? Is still top 5 all time from a big man. Up there with Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Rasheed Wallace, and a couple of others. There's a different eras argument as well. Karl Malone had Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo, Chris Webber, Tim Duncan, Patrick Ewing, Sabonis, Shaquille O'Neal, Rasheed Wallace, Cliff Robinson, Moses Malone, Sam Perkins, Robert Parrish, James Worthy, Charles Oakley, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, Kevin Garnett, Shawn Kemp, Vlade Divac, Charles Barkley, Elton Brand, and Horace Grant types of guys throughout the entire league to contest with while in the paint. It's not even comparable. Name as many impressive big men, that LeBron would have to compete with in the present day throughout the league? I implore anyone. Also? The league was not allowing guys to get to the free throw line for being breathed on like they are now. LeBron would be able to handle the beating physically because of his fitness, and hard work. But? He wouldn't have been doing whatever he wanted when driving to the rack like he has his entire career thus far while playing in the league. It's funny these younger generations argue for LeBron, and haven't been around long enough to see both eras in their entirety to even be able to make the argument.

Nick is paid by Lebron. You are comparing an NBA for the past decade where you can't touch anybody, get called for a foul when passing gas, shooting up 100 3 pointers a night, a mickey mouse game....to the 80s and 90s where you get killed for playing in the paint, and physicality was #1. MJ, Malone, Magic, Drexler, etc. putting up 30pts a game by chucking up 2 pointers every night...think about it.
