Organic Chemistry on Khan Academy: Carbon can form covalent bonds with itself and other elements to create a mind-boggling array of structures. In organic chemistry, we will learn about the reactions chemists use to synthesize crazy carbon based structures, as well as the analytical methods to characterize them. We will also think about how those reactions are occurring on a molecular level with reaction mechanisms. Simply put, organic chemistry is like building with molecular Legos. Let's make some beautiful organic molecules!
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

why did you do the 'bow tie' on the second carbon and not the third? they are both chiral carbons.

i got a question, i hope you see this comment, if the horizontal lines means its coming at you then if the H and OH of the second carbon are coming at you that means that means the H and OH of the third carbon should be going inside the screen not ot the same side of the second carbon becouse the two carbons should have a tetraedrical shape. i hope you can gasp what im trying to say my english is prety bad

This model doesn't actually follow the correct geometric configuration. The carbon backbone is essentially a straight line with the top and bottom carbons going away from you. Then all the constituents are rotated on their carbon to face towards you.

The group at the bottom is CH2OH but you drew it as C2OH?

I don't understand the meaning of It looks like (S) but it is actually (R) please answer me..

In order to assign R and S configuration, the lowest priority group needs to be facing away from you. Due to the nature of this model, all the constituents are actually facing out towards you. So if the lowest priority group is on a horizontal line, it is facing toward you. So instead of trying to reconfigure the molecule in your mind to get the low priority group away, just assign the opposite R and S than what it appears to be. If the low priority group is in the vertical line, than the apparent configuration is correct.
