Two points you should know: First in this era you should write down the move before you play it so tal was already going to play Sicilian but he wants to play with Fischer’s mind first because of what he said before about the Russians being afraid of playing the Sicilian against him. Secondly generally the move is not recorded finally until yo press the timer so you have all the time in the world to move back your pieces since you didn’t press the timer yet. So basically tal was ok no matter what.

@@aname4141 Maybe not. I think writing down your move before playing it was ALLOWED at the time (and even changing your mind about the move written down, provided that you did not actually play the move over the board). But you did not HAVE to write it down before your move.
