Let’s not forget this is originally Dolly Parton’s song, she was honoring her here. The first half of the song is a tribute to Dolly’s version, then after it’s more like Whitney’s version. Dolly comes out after Kelly sang this and said she was struggling not to cry and that Whitney would be proud. Very touching
@FischtankProductions2 жыл бұрын
I honestly did forget that. And that’s probably cause I’ve only heard dolly a time or two but have listened to Whitney sing it a million times.
@Remmysage2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! If she was doing Whitney it would have been wayyyy more powerful. Dolly Is a story teller, not a powerhouse vocalist. Wouldn’t have been respectful for her to come out and go full force like Whitney when she was honoring Dolly.

I didn't get to watch this show but I did see the video that was going around everywhere & from everyone of her singing this & Dolly's reaction aong w/others and people just couldn't believe how she sang like the angle she can sing like.

I honestly think that for the singers to come along in the last 20 years or so, there’s no comparison. She’s it. Always sings live. Always has soul. Just flat foot sings. No frills.
@kylejackson33342 жыл бұрын
Kelly doesn’t get nervous 🙂 she’s the queen! She can sing everything. She already proved on “That’s my jam” with Jimmy Fallon that she can sing every riff and run that Whitney does, this was a tribute to Dolly Parton who originally wrote and sang the song. So she did a mix of Dolly and Whitney versions and added her own little flare.

When you said she was singing it too lightly (she was combining Dolly’s version and Whitney’s), I was like “just wait”. 😂 Whenever Kelly starts soft, she will come in stronger later unless the song doesn’t call for it. Great reaction! Edit: Meaning Of Life Nashville sessions, holy shit yes you need to do that one.

Nice reaction, man. Since it was a Dolly Parton tribute, she sang some of the song like her which was more of a sweet version as oppose to Whitney's which was more powerful and dark. Kelly seemed to try to mesh the two versions she did an ingenious job. She literally almost floored me at "...and I hope you have all you've dreamed and I wish you joy" I have heard that song millions of times, but not that way, so I didn't see it coming. To think, the venue was a football stadium, and all she needed was a stage, mic, piano, acoustic guitar and two other musicians to tear that place down. That is a special artist there.

I think she did the perfect tribute to Dolly - in the original version of the song - Dolly sang it tenderly, with sweetness and emotions. Whitney's was definitely emotional as well, but more powerful passionate. So Kelly doing it acoustically is fitting for a Dolly tribute, although in the last chorus she did go a little Whitney

Most people know this song from whitney which is power ballad and most people don’t know the original is dolly..so this is tribute for dolly and kelly did a rendition of dolly & whitney’s version…if she did fully like whitney’s version this performance is no longer a tribute to dolly…so to do a rendition of 2 different versions I think she did amazing…she always delivers the vocal ❤️❤️❤️

Couple things- first, as always, love love LOVE to see your enthusiasm in these reaction vids! This was, indeed, a country-music awards show (ACM is Academy of Country Music, CMT is Country Music Television not to be confused with the CMA Awards, Country Music Association!) "That guy" at 05:00 is Chris Stapleton-not sure if you recognized him but I know you're a fan. He actually sang at these awards, as well, and you should DEFINITELY check it out. It's a song called "Watch You Burn" which he wrote after the Vegas Massacre of a few years ago and he's there in Vegas singing about it. Powerful stuff. Lastly, this was at Allegiant Stadium, which seats 70K!

Ok so I was thinking damm this guy looks like stapleton. But i wasnt sure cause he looked smaller...maybe he lost a little weight. But yea im not a huge country person but I love Stapletons voice and went to one of his concerts. One thing I do love about these reactions is the recommendations i get from the viewers. It is forcing me to listen to stuff I would have never heard and Im finding alot of awesome music. I hope I dont lose subs by jumping all the different genres. I know Whitney didn't write this song. Its Just the age that I am that is all I ever heard. I forgot this was originally Dolly's song because I have only heard it a couple times throughout my life. Quit roasting me LOL. Also I did not know this was a tribute to Dolly. I am not a country listener so I didnt watch this awards show and was not aware. With all that being said, Kelly did an amazing job.

It was sweet how you were trying not to dunk on her for not going full Whitney on it by brushing it off as “she was nervous, it’s so hard to hit those notes with that crowd size”. But anyone who knows KC knows that woman can belt like Whitney and do every run perfectly any day of the week. It was a HUGE risk to take by balancing the song between Dolly Parton’s original (since it was the CMA’s) and Whitney. Kelly nailed it, but it’s so hard when you first listen to it expecting something different. I loved going back and listening to it again without anticipating the classic Whitney runs and all that.

I think if you listen to Dolly Parton's original written in 1974 as a tribute to Porter Wagner when she was leaving his show you would understand the first part. The audience is fellow County Music artists, singers, songwriters and musicians. Dolly wrote, "I Will Always Love You" and her famous "Jolene" on the same napkin in a 24 hour period. Reba Mcentire was Kelly's mother-in-law and this performance was to honor Dolly, not compare to Whitney Houston. Regardless who sings the song, Dolly gets the Royalties. Dolly Refused to give the song to Elvis Presley because his manager wanted everything and Dolly refused.
