Amazing value not just for lunch but also a modest dinner. Cod roe is an acquired taste, but I like it. Pineapple is not bad, but I prefer banana. I surrender! I admit, I have lost the battle on curry sauce, so I shall say no more. ♥

Long time since I had cod roe, mum used to buy it tinned and batter it. She would also put slices of potato either side of the roe and then into batter. Very filling, very tasty, very cheap, but then gas didn't cost a mortgage, we just put two shillings into the metre, if it ran out, it ran out until you could afford a bit more. I had forgotten all about pineapple rings. Yum. Banana in batter is good. OMG I am so craving your meal.
@GreenoEats2 жыл бұрын
Yeah my Nan used to do the same with cod roe, my Dad grew up loving it. Which meant throughout my childhood in the 70s and 80s Mum used to make it for all of us, in the days when feeding your kids entire meals from the deep fat fryer was all the rage! My teenage daughter goes mad for pineapple fritters, I swear she thinks they count as one of your 5 a day!!
@Sharon46T2 ай бұрын
Bloody hell that portion would do me for my tea rather than lunch - it’s big! 👏 Pineapple always goes well with chilli! 😋 Can’t beat a battered sausage from my local - tasty - better than a catering sausage 👍

Strangely the restaurant bit was recently voted in the top 10 in the UK, but the takeaway didn't make the top 50 takeaways! It's a cracking chippy that's for sure. Planning to re-review it soon as part of my "what can you get for a tenner in a chippy" miniseries 🙂

We will be near Broadstone Dorset later this year again for our holiday. Terrible chip shops around that area though, so watching your videos for ideas for places to visit and maybe eat. Had no idea Harry Ramsden had a big place on the front at Bournemouth though. How did we miss that. Keep up the good work.

I highly recommend Lakeside, it's just a couple of miles from Broadstone, you won't be disappointed 🙂

Hi. Update. Tried the lakeside restaurant and was ok. Tiny child portions so won't be going back to the restaurant again. Never worth the £65 for 3 of us so we popped in the Asda for pudding and snacks. Might try the takeaway next year although I'm unsure about that! I know costs have risen but I'd rather pay a little more for a meal than leaving hungry. I'd recommend ordering a side portion of chips if you go there..
@GreenoEats6 ай бұрын
@@waynehendry9782 I have only ever eaten the takeaway there, but my Dad has been to the restaurant, and a very close buddy of mine also about a month back and said it was good. Sorry you were disappointed, the restaurant was recently voted as one of the top 10 fish and chips restaurants in the UK in the trade magazine so maybe you just caught them in a bad day (not that it's any consolation of course!)
@waynehendry97826 ай бұрын
Yeah. Think we did. You get no chips vs a standard takeaway. Very scrapy with bits the size of a hand full. Was tempted to buy a portion of chips on the way out but there was a queue. Guess I'm a typical person and don't complain just don't go back. Ha

I love soft and hard Roe. Not one shop in Merthyr does it. It's wonderful.. Cannot even get Haddock anywhere. It's only Bland no flavour cod. Good days of fish chip shops have gone in this part of Wales. Probably wrong as others do exist some distance away. Pine apple fritters were the favourite 40 years ago and cod roe. Use to buy tins of cod roe in the grocers. One of the best enjoyable dishes around.

Sister lives in Lincolnshire and makes it because she can only get it in chippies here, her original home, the West Midlands/Warwickshire. All chippies do it around here. I buy it in Tesco and make my own now though, because they slice it too thin these days. Sparkling water, s.f flour and a pinch of MSG and it's crunchy and even better than the chippy.

@@GreenoEats I think a lot of western countries throw out a lot of the parts of animals you should be eating. I am Malaysian btw but grew up in the UK, I love the cod roe so creamy.
@GreenoEats Жыл бұрын
It’s certainly true that many of the old recipes that used all parts of animals are somewhat out of favour now, especially among the younger generation. There is no way I could convince my kids to eat any kind of offal for example. Malaysian cuisine is an interesting one, lots of influences from China, India etc. Any cuisine that relies heavily on chillies in so many of its dishes is a winner in my book!
