Yes as an Australian myself I am just gobsmacked at the prices being charged by restaurants and takeaways these days, and wonder how on earth anyone affords it. I never eat out. Love my seafood but i'd rather cook it at home. If you can catch it, clean and fillet it yourself then you are laughing. Everything is exorbitantly expensive in this country and it's one thing I will never come to terms with. Just glad I am a good cook and can prepare yummy packed lunches and dinners, coffee etc without needing to pay these prices.

Agree there, the way this Country has taxes upon more taxes is ridiculous along with costs of everything else going through the roof. The average Aussies can only dream about eating these foods these days. Seafood in Aus was a bargain 15 years ago and very affordable, now it's for the rich only.

I love how Mark takes his time and gets to not just eat the foods on his vlog, but gets to know the people that prepares his food. We learn about the people, where the foods come from and how it's been prepared. Love the vlog, Mark. You need to make a stop to Bondi in Sydney and try some of their restaurants. My Auntie went there and said every restaurant was wonderful and the seafood was the best she had on her trip to Australia.

Hey, Mark! Regarding fish-eating, there is a place in Holland. Hoek van Holland, where the Maas flows into the sea. There is a small round restaurant with glass windows, where you could eat wonderful squid rings and salad, while watching big cargo ships going out to sea. In the background refineries, and cranes show up on the other side. Wind is always blowing, sometimes raining, sometimes snowing, sometimes it is sunny all within an hour. Wind blows the sand particles in the face. There is also a huge WWII fort with three stories that can be visited. Hell, there was a manhole cover blaring out light music also! This was long time back, but Hoek van Holland is a unique venue that needs to be experienced!!!

Growing up in Melbourne, and now 60, Fish & Chips on Friday just wasn't just a Good-Friday thing (though to it we owe the legacy), it was a cultural thing, every Friday! Affordable tucker (in those days) the whole family looked forward to. For generations prior, innumerable families, across the suburbs, Fish & Chips were an intro to the celebration of the weekend. It is our culture and hasn't faded or been written over as yet. We didn't invent Fish & Chips, but boy did we make it our own, refining it and honouring each mouthful as an Aussie thing to do.

The orange pieces attached to the scallop are the reproductive organs, often referred to as 'roe' or 'coral', often discarded, however I personally believe it to be the best part of the scallop or atleast in line with the meat, so sweet and delicious. Great video. PS, 26:40 those scallops are NOT local. Australia doesn't have scallops with roe that large. They're most likely scallops from China. A lot of places sell those as 'Tasmanian scallops', but they definitely are not. The commercial scallops (Pecten fumatus) from Tasmania have a much smaller roe. The main species of scallops in Australia are the saucer scallop (Amusium balloti) and commercial scallop (Pecten fumatus), not the one in the video!

Fantastic video and locations/food. It is great to see links between Oz and the UK are still strong - so many names of places are based on British towns and locations. Also interesting to see that Australian winter looks like UK summer - some of the places look similar to locations in Cornwall, Scotland and Wales. Fantastic place and food looks really impressive. Glad your enjoying the Australian seafood! I think you should try a roast leg of lamb with mint sauce before you leave, or maybe you could leave that one for your trip to New Zealand!

Yes or sometimes referred to as the coral. It is the reproductive organ not the tongue. 😅

The white parrot with the yellow top is called a sulfur crested cockatoo. The red and blue parrot is called a crimson rosella. I'm an Aussie guy (based in Sydney) and we have a wide variety of parrot species across the country. Look up rainbow lorikeets and king parrots for two spectacular examples ... PS. The orange part on the scallop is the roe (not tongue)

Just a fact. The orange part of the scallop is not the tongue. It’s called the roe, coral or milton of the scallops. It is the reproductive organ. I am enjoying this Victoria tour!!!

@Max Heinrich Gutzmann Liebow It doesn't look very chrispy so it was probably oil not juice. In the uk you get soft flaky fish and crispy batter.
