I've been there as a youngster walking the coastpath on my own for like two weeks, that's almost 40 years ago. Still great memories. Just travelled with a Belgian trucker who was heading to Bristol. Hitchhiked to the southcoast (Weston Super Mare that was) and started walking the coastpath from there, no clear destination. Just walk the day, finding myself a B&B in the late afternoon. I remember little and bigger towns like Ilfracombe, Barnstaple, Minehead, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Weymouth, Portsmouth, Swanage, Milford on Sea..... From Barnstaple I did a hitchhike again to Exeter, took the coastpath there again walked parts of it and hitchhiked some distances up to Portsmouth. Took the train from Portsmouth to Dover as I started running out of money. Back to Belgium from Dover. No internet back then, no cellphones... had detailed paper maps to rely on and sending a postcard every other day to my parents to let them know all was ok.

This sounds interesting…or sacrilege! 😂 We’ll have to see… Makes me think of a fillet-o-fish. 🤷♀️ Nothing wrong with a fish burger - surprised more places don’t do it thinking about it 👍

It’s a really good chippy. Not cheap, but good quality. They often have specials too, like in the run up to Xmas they do battered pigs in blankets and stuffing patties etc.

I have never had a mackerel bap before, but I see absolutely nothing wrong or strange about it at all, so I would love to try it sometime. Although, I am on the fence between horseradish and tartare sauce. The chips looked decent enough. I love the rules on crabbing, but they imply you cannot eat them!?! I would! 🤣
@GreenoEats4 ай бұрын
Mackerel is a fish that lends itself to strong flavours, horseradish, gooseberry relish etc. Believe me, those are way better than tartare sauce for that particular fish!

Weymouth is indeed a nice place to have on my doorstep (well, within about 20 minutes), pretty blessed to live where I do. I spend quite a bit of time in Weymouth, as I volunteer as the Stadium Announcer for Weymouth FC too.

Hi Joe, welcome to the channel :-) - funnily enough I rewatched this video myself today, it was the first video I made going out and about - filmed on my phone with no mic.... very rough and ready ha ha! But my views on the mackerel bap still stand - I definitely recommend having it with horseradish sauce!

Hi Greeno. I live in Yeovil and go to Weymouth as often as I can. I love how old school it is. I especially like all the different fish that is on sale at Weyfish. And in the summer the have the oyster bar outside. Delicious!!! As for Bennetts as you said the battered mackerel is lovely and, very good chips. You probably know that Marlborough fish n chips is well worth a visit. Sorry Bennetts but, they are the best chippy I have ever eaten in.

Yeah it was good. Fishier than cod or haddock if you know what I mean, but in a good way. Very flavoursome. You should give Weymouth a go sometime it's probably just about doable as a day trip from your part of the world isn't it? Although maybe there are equally nice places closer to your doorstep.
