A young lady of about ten, knew I had a sick African Dwarf Frog. She knocks on the door and asks, how is he. I tell her I was about to bury him. She says, may I? She went and dug a hole for the frog, grabbed the net, and put the frog in a small box. She spoke of how she loved seeing the frogs and would miss her buddy. She passed a moment, carefully placed the box in the ground, and covered it over. Some people do not get a final going away as good as this frog had.

I only keep small fish. all my tanks are deep substrate and heavily planted, they all have scuds and snails, generally when a fish dies it just gets consumed by the tank. if I happen to notice the dead fish ill push it down into the substrate. I do have some common goldfish outside in a small pond, so far none have died that I had to dispose of, though the first year I put them out there something , heron or maybe raccoon got 5 of them over a couple days before I wised up and built a fence around and above the pond.

Same. I have things like neons and endlers, so if they do die, the snails and shrimp clean them up in no time. I also push it into the substrate if i do happen to see it. I get sad, cause I only have a few, but its contributing to the cycle of life in the tank ❤

Most of mine go out in the garden (which has done wonders for my rosebush). There is a place in my city that does pet cremation, and that's the option I chose for my large beloved shubunkins when they passed. They even made a print of his long, beautiful tail fin mounted on a plaque. It's a perfect memorial to the times we had together.

I have had my fair share of fish die on me. Something that I just come to accept is that fish will die on you no matter how much you try to keep them healthy. You can give them a nice planted tank with warm water, feed them the highest quality food, and have the most pristine water parameters in the world but fish are gonna die on you. I’ve lost guppies, Cory Dora’s, and harlequin Rasboras. This morning my albino Cory Dora that was perfectly healthy for years and a month ago my thick lipped gold gourami that I had for only three months then died. When fish die I return their body to the earth and put them in my plants.

I think some people forget about contamination to waterways for plants and fish. it's possible they panic about it whether sadness or fear of death. However, as a fish keeper protecting against introducing invasive plants, animals, and diseases to your natural ecosystem is what causes laws and regulations to amp up in some areas. For others that already have the information EDUCATE dont SHAME.

In the beginning… my fish keeping experience may be closer to fish homicide… I had groups of fish die of ich, another group die of a fungal outbreak due to poor maintenance. I even lost some of most prized fish to colomnaris… I had to learn from every mistake and every loss. I look at it as, I honour my lost fish by not making the same mistakes or trying to make the extra effort to ensure they thrive. I’ve started to coin a phrase, you are more capable than you know, don’t be afraid to do enough. Water, conditioners, food, they all can be bought, so can fish but it’s fish keeping not I got lazy and gave up in hopes of a miracle… stay happy and healthy my friends 😊❤…. Ps my most prized fish, I buried because I loved that fish so much, I still visit and touch the stones I used to mark it. Long live Gully!!!

I lost a betta fish a few weeks ago. It's pretty awful. :( About a year and half ago I got five Endler's, and now I'm down to one. Just yesterday I was noticing he didn't look like he was doing all that well, and this morning he is definitely slower than normal and spending more time resting than normal. So I expect he's down to his last few days at this point :-/ Mostly I keep snails, and most of the time it's no big deal to lose a snail (although earlier this year I lost a particularly ancient mystery snail, which was a bummer), but of course I'm going to add a fish here or there with all the aquarium space I have, and I never like losing a fish. Since the numbers of fish I have is so small, I give them burials in the garden under some copper fish statues I got to mark their little graves.

Can someone please help me figure out why my pleco died ? I had a pleco for only a few weeks, my Aunt had given him to me because she was moving and he had probably been thru a big shock he was only a year old. Once I put him in my 37 gallon aquarium he was adjusting really well. He was moving around more and more and he was constantly pooping so I know that he was eating enough. I fed him pleco algee thins with a good source of protein. Then all of a sudden he started hanging around behind the bubbler and he wasn't moving around much that day. that night as I was about to feed him his flakes I found him in the corner of the tank behind my decor one look at him and I just knew that he had passed... I took him out and he already really stunk. But he was only gone for a few hours before I noticed. I tested the water expecting it to be really bad but actually the pH was 7.5 and the water was the same temp as always 75 degrees. I just don't get why he died!! I did do a water change a week before he passed, but still he seemed fine after that and the other fish in the tank are doing really well. The only other different thing I did was I put a slice of cucumber in the tank, but I had read that cucumber was really good for him. Anyways, I hope someone knows what I did wrong so that I don't make the mistake again! Thank you for taking the time to read this.❤

There is nothing more frustrating than seeing your fish swimming around, perfectly healthy and the following day, it’s dead for no apparent reason. Water parameters perfect, other fish are fine, and the one that died, showed no signs it was even unwell. Guppies seem to be notorious for this….for me anyway. I have over 100 guppies, so losing one every month or so, is pretty normal in my opinion. I always pop them in the bin, because when you have so many, you’re not as attached to them like a dog or a cat, and guppies are very different to losing an Oscar or a Betta that you have had for many years and had names. Don’t get me wrong, I love my guppies very much and I always try my very best to provide them with everything they needed to be healthy and not die, I hate seeing anything in my care die, but some things are just beyond our control, you can only do your best. Losing fish is all part of fish keeping, unfortunately.
