If mounting on the bottom of a kayak do not forget to get a transducer shield to protect the transducer on the 2020 hobie pa the mounting bracket will protect it

I was so excited to watch this and see what you had to say about mounting the transducer and.... fail. A lot of people don’t have dedicated mounting points on the bottom and I was hoping you had some ideas.

Jerry Rig a transom mount, add gear track and use the switchblade mount, or use inhull mounting foam. Hope that helps

I agree as it’s a great tool! Only problem I have is I use the noqua 10ah also and if I’m using the chart plotter I will only get about 2 hours of battery life. I can use just the sonar and get about 9 hours. You definitely need to plan your gps usage.

I just got a side scan fish finder for my canoe that has a trolling motor. Someone suggested that I should save my money and return it for a traditional 2d sonar because you need to travel 3-5 mph to get a good reading with side scan and down scan. Do you have any issues with side scan readings at slow speeds in your kayak?

As long as you are under about 7 mph you’ll have a pretty good image. Once you get over 8 it will be inconsistent and piecey

Peddle kayaks very greatly in price. Best to demo them first because what one person likes another doesn't. I have a radar 135 and like it a lot. Good luck!

Jackson coosa , has a pop up feature if you hit underwater logs and rocks. With a propeller. Forward- reverse . Hobie has kick up fins as well as turbo fins and 180 or 360 drives. But cost more. I dont think any other yack maker has this pop up feature.

I'm interested in trying out that RAM mount. On their website there are 3 that look like that compatible with Lowrance (none of them show SIMRAD compatibility). Do you know which model you have?

I have a Deeper Pro+. I either put it through the transducer hile on my PA or hang it off the side with a short fishing rod.

I car top my Hobie PA12 5 or 6 days a week. I choose to strip the hull completely before loading it on top of the car (seat, Mirage drive, crate, tackle boxes, rods, front storage bin, battery, fish finder head unit,rod holders, paddle etc. ) Some folks might choose to leave some of that stuff attached but I'd rather not risk loosing any of it on the drive home, for my sake and for the safety of other drivers. The downside is it takes a few minutes to set up and take down each trip.

Question.. would a fish finder be able to see my iPhone?? my phone slid out of my pocket on a small lake. I know the general area... I had a buddy take a picture of a 4lbr that I caught and in that picture you can see the phone falling in.

@Adam Austin I know Lowrance can't take a roll over , but funny you said Garmin because on the Sea-Doo fishing jet ski they but a Garmin ECHOMAP Plus 62cv. So they must have better water protection on Garmin.

I have fallen out of my kayak numerous times haha. I've yet to have it flip completely over though. I always say if you feel like your about to flip/fall off, do yourself a favor and just fall out. If you hold on and try to avoid it, you're going in along with all of your gear.

Yes, I rolled my Hobie PA12 once (so unlikely but yes I managed to do that) and it killed my Humminbird Helix 5. I'm really pissed that the manufacturers of electronics MADE to be used on the water don't make them waterproof. We pay a lot for these units.
