We just added our first inhabitants to my new 10 gallon nano tank. So far a school of 6 rasbora and a tiny Cory catfish. He’s wiggly and adorable! I hope they do well. I still want a few friends for the Cory and to get my school of rasbora up to ten. Cross your fingers for us. I’d also like a few shrimps.

I believe that plant at 10:51 is an Amazon Sword Harbich. I have the Harbich plant, and the plant in question looks very similar to mine, but yours is a bit taller. Also, a Panda Garra or two might help with BBA control, as they are very active and not shy fish. Finally, yes I would love to see a Snakeskn Barb species profile. Barbs are definitely a group of fish that get a bad reputation, because of a few infamous members.

so the tank with all the yellows.... if you cant do plants, maybe some branches in the foreground. it's like there aren't enough places to hide. the scape is all in the center and maybe it doesn't work for these guys. usually good for schoolers, though. it's almost like there isn't enough in there for them all to stake out territories or feel secure. reminds me of how my kilifish would duck and hide instantly and was skittish as hell. UNTIL i put floating plants and some dry leaves and stuff at the top, which his type is used to in the wild. now he's absolutely different, and has learned to trust me and comes up for feeding. he does the honors. i wait till he comes up to drop food in for the tank. the lowboy, yeah..... i mean i think the scape actually looks really good but the stocking is perhaps not the ideal to really make it shine. it needs some brighter flashes of color you can see across the room. schoolers would be great because of the room but it could be anything. idk the height but even angels would be cool in there, like kois or anything else with color. i could see them drifting along FAR and that's nice to see. tbh that one has the best scape for many options. 6:41 this tank... again it's the center scape design. and also feels really overstocked and chaotic. partly that's due to the schooling fish not schooling and maybe you'll find a solution. but i don't feel like that scape really works as much for these particular guys. i'd almost rather see them in the lowboy and do a larger fish in here. the little guys are lost in this scape. or like, it feels so busy, and then they are chaotic and not schooling in addition to that. (the scape is nicely balanced though. i just think different fish could really make it shine.) 12:20 this is a cool tank and i think one of the stronger aquascapes along with the lowboy. the problem here (depending on how you look at it, is that you have all of these fish bunched on the one side.) again, this is also chaotic and with all the different fish types. IRONICALLY, it feels like your favorite type is basically the left side and snakeskin barbs and a species-only affect. this tank would be dope af if it was JUST these guys and maybe a bigger school. seems to me that you have a tendency to put a lot of different types of fish together and sometimes it's better to have just one type with perhaps a few oddballs that are solitary, and cleanup crew. i think it would be stunning with just snakeskins. and maybe that isn't your jive. but in that case, i'd think about how your current stocking interacts with your aquascape. it's sad the rest clump up into the more planted area and feels cramped. what if the rest of these guys went in the lowboy?? i bet they'd spread out and be all over the place. 17:31 i see what you mean about the rock scape, though it does look cool. almost want to see a big fat colorful fish in here. or a few. maybe one of those things where it acts like a centerpiece. there is so much open top area and yet nothing going on and a lot of hiders. so if there are any top or mid level colorful fish, (i think big ones but technically a school would work too.) and you might have to downsize your cave bois to make room but it would liven up the tank. i might be picturing severums or parrotfish. just a bright pop of yellow/orange/red spectrum would look cool. or blue. anything. warm colors would stand out. again, it's that thing of: the scape is good but different stocking could really make it shine. the other thing you can always do, if you see your fish bunching or acting ways you're not really into.... is that you may need to alter the scape. for the one with the snakeskins... you could break up the planted dense area or just add another. so essentially another cluster on the far end or somewhere towards the back. it would encourage them to cluster in 2 areas or even cross over between them a bit more. (but if it was all snakeskins i still think they'd make use of it in a way that you'd be pretty damn happy. for the rock one, what if you built a rock area UP, like in the background, almost like a wall? it would let something be more mid and top tier and they may swim around more. or it could break things up for the eye. ultimately, do what makes you happy. these are just things to consider, from someone a little obsessed with aquascaping. : ) figured i'd mention, in case it was some things you hadn't thought of and could feel like something to try. ugh i'm obsessed with those barbs, though. greens are one of my favs and these guys also, now that i'm seeing them. and i swear the setup of that tank is like TAILORED to them. anyway, thanks for the tour and have fun in the fishroom, changing stuff up! it can be such a great feeling when you land on something you like better. :D

Thanks! That mbuna tank is one of the nicest on KZbin! As for the Tanganyikan tank, I have no real advice, other than I spent 6-7 years with a Tanganyikan tank trying real hard to like it, but never really did. I finally just phased it out via natural attrition, and now it houses mbuna. I guess that makes me an African Cichlid simpleton! I respect and appreciate Tanganyikan devotees, and I've seen many beautiful tanks, but for me, it's a theme tank best appreciated in someone else's fish room.

Nice, honest fish room. As a Tang guy, I like the Tanganyika tank but I agree that the stocking is not spectacular. I love the ornatus, but to add color, I think a few leleupi would add that splash. That means losing a few of the other fish. Not sure what length has this tank, if long enough, cyps would be a nice addition. I dont mind the BBA, think it gives it a natural look.

the geophagus tank was my favorite. The variety of fish are cool. Also, made me wish I'd never gotten rid on my snake skin barbs. It all looks great, wouldn't even notice the algae if you hadn't pointed it out- nice to know even experienced keepers battle the same problems! That plant in the nano tank looks like my melon sword, from what I can see of it. I'll be interested to see what you add to it to encourage schooling- I'm assuming something larger and slightly aggressive to provoke the defensive schooling behavior. The Tanganyikan tank I think maybe could just use a different color background, maybe a deep blue or green, or even purple if you use a glowing light. Not sure if you have black paint or film on it. Otherwise, you could build the rock piles taller so they reach the surface and you could have houseplants growing out the top, like a Monstera or something, to add that pop of color. I like the lowboy tank, and you said you want to add some fish- you could add some more mollies to keep that one company, maybe some gold dust mollies for a nice color contrast. Anyway the gallery looks really nice overall- good job :)

nice gallery Jason, it was really enjoyable seeing it come together. i think previously i have commented that the eartheaters are more likely to be G. winemilleri or a related undescribed species from the upper Rio Negro, my opinion has not changed. in this video some of them show prominent stress bars pattern, four bars would confirm G. winemilleri. one of them has a less well-defined pattern and may be something else, time will tell. the spot is too small for them to be G. megasema. locality would help if they are wild caught, but this information may not be easily available
