A Mahi off a pier !! You guys down in Fla are so fortunate. I have a sister in Mary Ester and went there to visit. The prettiest water I've ever seen. I live in NC ,can't complain with the opportunities offshore but I am just jealous wanting to get back down there. Had an old fishing buddy that moved there to Destin , he took me and my kids out for kings. We had just an awesome day , I can still see that beautiful purple hued water off the beach with neon green lit up to the shore I remember thinking you could paddle out in a one man craft and there's just no telling what great fighters wait on that obvious drop. Guys , gals catch one for me. Pat , we had a great time buddy, you were the best fisherman I had the pleasure of fishing with. Miss you every trip. RIP Captain Pat.

Pier Fishing is some of the most fascinating/challenging way to fish due to all the constraints. As with anything, you get good with the situation you deal with including how you handle the drop nets & all that. It's all "greek" to me but I learn new stuff with every video . Thanks for your time & for sharing all you've learned..... peace & GB ALL

Anyone else notice the dark dorsal fin briefly break the surface at the 10:53 mark? Was that a shark? It appears just right after the words "there's gotta be a good fish". It's left of center frame and his rod tip points right to the area it appears. Thanks for the fun video and I'll be sure to head to the closest pier during the next hurricane no doubt. I do know it's a very good idea to head out on a low --pressure system moving in. Happy to sub. Cheers..!!!

My father was an Islander. When me and my brothers were youngsters my dad took us to the shoreline and jetties to show us how you can get enough food the feed the family. I had once caught a Dorado, that's what we call them here in California, but when I pulled the fish out of the water the colors on that fish was one of the most brightest of color but blended together just perfect. My dad's eyes open up huge when he saw what I brought on to the rocks and he said Damm boy...you just caught steak for everybody today. We didn't spend much more time here because my dad told us a fish like that you want to filet and cook soon after you catch it. But when you put those taco together it brought the memories of when I had my first Mahi Mahi fish taco. That recipe you had was identical to the one I was blessed with. Ya, you were blessed by hooking up on that Dorado. Good catch.

Wow this brings back memories. I grew up in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s fishing the ocean pier at Dauphin Island, AL.. good times. We’d take the boat out and troll spoons all day for Spanish and Kings. No electronics back then, so pretty much just watched for the birds. We’d come in with a cooler load of fish and after cleaning all the fish and washing the salt off the boat, off to the pier I’d go. I lived and breathed fishing back in those days. When I grew up, my career took me far away from the coast. Now at retirement age, I’m figuring on how to get back. These frequent hurricanes leave me wondering how much of myself I want to invest down there, though.

Mate . A Fisherman from Australia. Grey beard ...hard hands .. sunburnt and scarred and I'm only 59. Dealt with saltwater crocodiles up real close. Months at sea killing fish every day . Common names don't really cut it . Latin names help you bring it back. Scomberomorus commerson . Are what we call Spanish Mackerel. One year I focussed on getting fish better than 20 kilograms. Well I blew the doors off . First trip two at 30 at kilograms. Next trip ....48.50 kilograms.About 106 pounds in your system. Our Mangrove Jack is Lutjanis Argentimaculatus . These fish are tough in close territory. The amount of undersized fish I have landed with hooks still in the jaws and ones just over size have hooks partially digested and bunched up next to their anal vent tells me that these guys are tough to get out of close cover . They get to have some space and dive for cover . Just re rig . The Lutjanis are the best fresh eating fish . Yeah there are others
