A part of my carp fishing history. Fished it late 70's early 80's with now past friends Jon Burrows and Andy Short BCSG members. Guest appearance by Kevin Maddocks on a couple of occasions. Good times and a lovely lake, would be nice to revisit one day.

@@BPMilling yes they bought in a stupid rule of min 8 lb line and min size 8 hook to make the carp boys happy and ruined the place for proper anglers

What do you do with the silverfish afterwards, doesn't look like you're going to kill them.

These were moved to another of the clubs waters, permission was granted by the EA prior to our visit.

Ive heard the best people to use to net your lake are eastern Europeans. Apparently, they can clean out a medium sized water in a couple of hours.

I’m sure it will make good content if we can put your theory to the test 😂

I've been watching yours netting clips for a long time and I come to conclusion - why fishery owners in UK don't stock their ponds with a solid numbers of perch, pikes or catfish to control all the silvers? I'm aware of pike or catfish might be a threat to smaller or even medium carp but perch seems to be just perfect for this job.
@Ashley-dy7bx
@Ashley-dy7bx Ай бұрын
Some do. Some places like the silvers because they are free stock for their other lakes.
@BPMilling
@BPMilling Ай бұрын
Lots of places do that and the effect is not what you’d think. All fish still need feeding, regardless of species and often the amount of perch or pike required to effectivey control juveniles is often detrimental to the growth of other fish, it all comes down to total biomass. Catfish on the other hand are non-native so they require special license to stock, they also breed effectively in the right waters and become a nuisance in themselves! Not as easy as it sounds unfortunately!

What about the carp?
@BPMilling
@BPMilling Ай бұрын
They’re much better at exploiting opportunity to get out of the net whenever the leads find a snag, lily root or reed stem! Silvers and bream are shoal fish so even when the netting goes bad, they often just follow the mesh in without trying to dig out under when the lead line lifts. The boys said they saw plenty electrofishing, but it’s no surprise not to have any in the nets given the nature of the old lake and its many features!
@rossisaac2360
@rossisaac2360 Ай бұрын
That makes sense! It’s advertised as being stocked with 200 carp but I only think you can see one that spooks off the electro rig

What do you mean put 500lb chalk in there
@BPMilling
@BPMilling Ай бұрын
Chalk (calcium carbonate) is a finely ground mineral which helps to balance the pH of the substrate which allows aerobic bacteria to digest organic debris. Aerobic bacteria don’t like acidic environments, so balancing pH with chalk will help to reduce silt load by allowing aerobic bacteria to work. It’s used as a long term treatment to combat silt and improve water fertility.

@BPMilling could this be done like places the grand Union canal which is so silted up ,our Christmas match was won with 14oz seems there's hardly any fish ,when the coal boats used to travel through it kept a deep channel

Someone else said they had this happen, something’s not quite right! We’ve never had that happen and have netted hundreds of fisheries over the years! It shouldn’t kill them! 😬

Now it seems to me, that a lot of fisheries, are becoming “ Camp out/ Carp” fishing lakes…I don’t understand the logic behind it…Bream seem to be taken on boilies….and the same for big Roach…..why is this fascination on big Carp?….just saying
@pleasantville4529
@pleasantville4529 Ай бұрын
I believe that the carp fishing explosion is due to its simplicity, and the relative lack of concentration required to catch "big" carp. Any mug can throw out three rods, put the bite alarms on, and then go to sleep while waiting for a fish. It's a lazy way of fishing, and that suits some anglers. The best carp anglers are an exception to the rule, as they are continually tweaking things . The majority of carp anglers are more like camping enthusiasts with fishing gear. Just saying 🤣🤣

There’s a lot to be said on this topic, it’s our job to help steer fisheries on a healthy path to create happy and productive environments for fish, the state of the market is a can of worms that we all have an opinion on 😜

What's the deal with you guys doing nettings for people? We have had our local club net our lake last few years to remove unwanted fish but its never been very prolific and dosent make a dent.
