Thanks for doing this video. I'm getting ready to hook up my Alita 40. I'd like to see what you used from the pump to the 3/4 PVC. I have 16 tanks.. it looks like I'll have no problems getting the air I need.

Awesome Thanks for the vid and info. Actually been looking at the AL-15 for my little fish room/office.. I have 2 whisper 60's and they are loud, and not putting out enough still. Though I probably wont do a full room setup like you did - I do plan on going to two different rack systems.
@TrafishAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Awesome Glad this video was helpful, One thing to keep in mind is you want to make sure that there's enough outflow of air because if you back up the pressure too much it'll wear the diaphragm out quicker, two whisper sixties will put out about six liters of air per minute total where the AL-15 puts out 15, If you think theoretically you're going to use at least 10 to 12 it should work out well.

@@TrafishAquatics In theory I will have 12 aquariums in room/rack setups (assuming my 2 Qt tanks are going at the time) - Some 20's with matten filters, some 10's, a 40, a 29 and a 37 and a few 5s and usually a couple Baby Brine shrimp hatcheries. All kinds of mixture of filters, but I generally use the dual sponge filters. My 37 and 40 are on sponge and HOB - I want to convert fully to sponge, but would like 2 sponge filters in place. You mention the backpressure, I know some people will bleed out the excess air, I suppose that would be ideal then? Also was reading a site that says output is 2.6lpm on the 60.. Assuming the 100's are 3.3lpm.. guessing that's between the two outlets, so hoping 15 is big enough lol.

Based off tests I've don't the whisper 60 produces 1.55 LPM per output with no restriction by a check valve, so you can use that to figure out how many drop lines you would need. There is also an Alita 25 and 35 if you would need something a little bit larger.

great set up!! will those valves take 1/4" vinyl tubing? Thanks
@TrafishAquatics3 жыл бұрын
These valves are for 3/16" so you would have to find valves for 1/4", but I guess it depends if you measure your tubing by inside or outside diameter

I have been using two large sponge filters for my 100 gallon tank, but i see a lot of free floating white particles that seem to never get sucked in by the sponges even after cleaning them. Would a canister filter fix it? Thank you
@TrafishAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Yes even a small hob would do it as well

Trafish how is the central air system running? I was givin a new Alita Al-40 and would put 20-30 drops on it.

Is there a formula for determining what size air pump is needed?
@TrafishAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Not one that scientifically set in stone, however I like to run about one liter per minute of air through large sponge filters, and a half a liter per minute on the smaller ones. That's usually how I calculate it for myself

Do you notice a difference in your power bill due to this? Trying to figure out how to reduce my bill. I also have a lot of tanks, 10 of them.

Yes, If by removing all the air pumps and a few hang on backs I'm saving approximately 165 watts an hour which if you multiply that by 24 hours a day gives you about 4,000 watts and multiply by 30 days a month gives you 120,000 watts monthly, which is 120 kilowatt hours. The national average is $0.13 per kilowatt hour which comes out to roughly $17 monthly, based on my electricity I'm saving about 20 per month which will pay off this upgrade in about 6 months unless I remove the last few small hob and the one canister which would result in an additional $5 per month. Now this may not seem like a lot but you have to realize I only removed seven hang on backs, The wattage utilized by this new air pump was almost equivalent to the wattage being used by all the individuals, the new pump was about 10 watts less. For 10 tanks I would look into the Alita 15.
