Your plants are as beautiful and fabulous as your fish! Even just the guppy grass looks Lush and wonderful. What's the secret? What's your water like? I have liquid rock, so I never quite get the results with most plants. Guppy grass and I are not good friends.

Thank you so much! I live in Chicagoland so we have crazy hard water as well. Best way to grow floaters is to have nutrients in the water column but it is a fine line to walk before you get algae blooms. :)

Are you willing to mention the name of the black hang on back filters you are running? I noticed you would not mention your LED of choice in another video. So if not, I understand. Your tank room incredible! Your passion for the hobby is definitely reflected.
@AndrewPiorkowski5 жыл бұрын
My filters are either the Aquaclear or Tetra Whisper filters available at most pet stores. They are cheap and the parts can be interchangeable between tanks, which allows me to sort of bulk clean them. I use them primarily to maintain water movement though, not necessarily too concerned with how clean they make the water. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, i have a325 liter filled with ameca splendens. Started with 4 female 1 male. My guess is 120 to140 now. Including the thebackup pack in120 liter. I was down to 1 female formosa and 3fellas. She just had 8 babies born a day apart and ican seee the size difference of each one :) I'm so happy . My ameca splenden male ratio is way high. Why could that be??. Btw i tried to feed the skolded chpped spinat and they love it. Keeps them from nipping the plants for a while at least. Barachyr roseni are realy cool but never had babies. The male was a jumper and the 3 females died on me._ . I am going to try limia perugiae soon in a60 l planted. What are in the pots?
@AndrewPiorkowski6 жыл бұрын
@@bouranelAwesome, congrats on the breeding! Brachyrhaphis are tough since they actively predate on their fry, kind of a mean fish but still cool. The pots are all filled with dirt (topsoil) with a layer of gravel over the top. Dirt is oddly underrated in the hobby for growing plants. Thanks for watching!

I kept the particle board for the aesthetics (it looks nicer than plywood) but did use a thick plywood cut to the same size as the shelf. I didn't reinforce them originally because they were rated for 4,000 lbs, but after adding the plywood there haven't been any issues. I really like them!

Umm.. dude.. you sound like you know your shit. It so impressive that you know the common name, scientific name, previous scientific name if changed and location on all your fish. Not only that but your tanks are psycho clean, the plants are so healthy and the fish look fat, full and energetic, so you couldn’t possibly skimp out on feeding sessions which can only mean you change a lot of water.. first video I’ve seen on your fishroom. I’m keen to see how you manage it, which I’m sure you talk about in other videos. Ive got a budget fish room of 4 tanks currently of around 200 gal total. Second hand tanks and corners cut where possible to save on money which is tight. It ain’t the prettiest but god I’m obsessed. And the amount of work that goes into it ( which is the best part of having a fish room ) is massive... I had 8 tanks for a few months but being on carpet, I was worried about humidity and mildew on carpet 🙄🙄🙄
@AndrewPiorkowski6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, I take pride in thoroughly researching my fish. As for water changes, I don't do them as much as you might think. Plant load combined with the small size of much of my stock plays a role in that. Well established filter media, old gravel, water from an established aquarium, & plenty of plants go a long way to maintaining water chemistry balance. Also, I don't take more than a 5 gallon bucket out of any tank at a time; fish can become stressed when parameters that fluctuate. Every few days I go around & siphon here and there, trim plants, & remove the occasional clump of hair algae. Thanks for watching! If this was the first video you saw, I hope you subscribe & check out my other videos! Goodeids are neat! :)

Love your fish! Just found after searching for the tequila goodeid. I go to my LFS about once a month and for the past two months there has been a fish in the nano tanks that I was attracted to and sort of recognized, but couldn't quite remember what it was and they had gotten it as a contaminant and assumed it was a pupfish. Finally took it home yesterday and after staring at it in my tank I realized it looked a lot like a goodeid. Watched Aquarium Co op video of Greg Sages fish room again to confirm what it was. He sure is happy harrassing my female endlers lol

I use the Fluval ECO lights available at Petco & topsoil from outside mixed with a small amount of Eco-Complete to boost the iron content. It helps that most of the tanks are shorter which allows the light to penetrate further. I try to keep all my setups relatively simple & consistent!

@AndrewPiorkowski6 жыл бұрын
Shellshocked Aquatics Hey now! Greg is awesome, actually gave him another shout out when looking at the toweri. As for the lights, they work for my purposes. Fish keeping is about patience so while they may not be the best, they are low wattage & the grow the plants I am trying to grow. I will say that my java fern isn't doing great lol. I have been floating it more or less with my Allodontichthys, probably should just dirt it!
@ShellshockedAquatics6 жыл бұрын
greg is awsome thats what i mean your up there with the mentors! you know my java never did well in dirt and they seem to stay the same size when floating , then i read bury the roots leave the ryzome exposed ito light. they are doing better. the one i got in the aquasky/ameca splendens tank is just sitting wedged between two big sandstone rock and the roots are touching the sand and i will never move it cause its doing good. i trimmed it real small cause it had hair algae real bad( wich never went away untill the amecas had fry) then it grew to a nice size, wich by the way i now have 16 ameca fry! i did not mean nothing bout greg i look to him and you when it comes to this stuff, i watched him first . he is a genius!!

Beautiful tanks and fish, and your plants look so healthy too. Do you feed the fry anything different to the adults?
@AndrewPiorkowski6 жыл бұрын
For fry I try to be mindful that the dry foods need to be ground up for them & then I drop that near where I know they like to hang out! For example, in the Xenotoca doadrioi tank, I feed the adults their normal foods out in the open area but I drop the ground powder into the dwarf sag in the corner. The only thing I feed that may be more targeted for the fry is the occasional BBS, but it isn't their staple. Thanks for watching!

How do you maintain all the stuff? Water changes? Siphoning? So many small filters, small HOBs - to clean them must take many time.? Why do you have so small amount of substrate on the bottoms and the plants are almost always in the pots? By this you reduce biological capacity of your tanks.?

Great video and exceptional variety of fish and plants. Please direct me to your plant care video. As you know I have the Ameca Splendens, butterfly goodeid. What I thought to be my males, as they have matured, have a very pronounced black lateral line highlighted by a white line on their caudal fin. No breeding yet, but received as fry and juveniles from Greg Sage.
@AndrewPiorkowski6 жыл бұрын
Mad Fish Diva I have a video called "Aquarium Plants in Terra Cotta Pots" from a few months ago in addition to a "How To" I did for setting up a new tank. As for Amecas, they are an incredible fish! It is best to look at the shape of the anal fin on them to sex out juveniles as the sees can look pretty similar until they are fully mature. Females should have a round fan but even young males will start to show the notch developing. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

Mostly by making friends within the fish hobbyist community. Auctions could really be anywhere if you know people that are physically in attendance. I have picked up fish at my club specifically to give to a friend.
