The spring of 1980. First year the Damn held back water, it was Good Friday, many will remember, 4 of us got there before daylight. The water was like chocolate milk with a foot of foam on top. Immediately we started catching fish, white bass at, nice ones. 1, 2 lbs all caught our limits, then the sun comes up, crappie all nice ones, all caught limits, 3 walleye25,26 ins One guy brought shad for bait. Caught his limit in cats ! We Left before noon, took us almost 4 hrs to clean fish. Most memorable fishing day of my life.

Jerry Routh had to go take a look to see what mine was and it’s a 310 ultralight so it’s not as old but still works good
@jerryrouth61155 жыл бұрын
I have five 310's. The base is the same as the 308 and 408 but the spool diameter is smaller. You can actually exchange the spool assembly on all three of these models. Thanks again.

She had severe back pains that put her on crutches for the rest of the year. She hasn't been able to do anything but troll until just recently. We were very hopeful until today and it looks like she may have to have foot surgery. Any way she will be fishing if she can. She really loves it and does real well. Thanks Terry for your support.

That was a great video Jerry. I see your vintage Mitchell is going strong, I grew up with that model of reel. I think your misses out fish everyone there. That guy that hooked that Blue probably would have landed it if he would have had a little more patience. I love to come up there some time for catfish, I'll bet there are some whoppers in there. Thanks for sharing your fishing trip. Subbed.

Lafoia, if you would check my playlists under the topic (THINGS I DO) you will find a video showing how and why I still use these old 308 and 408 Mitchell reels. I have approximately 50 of them. And, yes, my wife can flat catch crappie from the bank. She has the patience to stay with her retrieves. Thanks again for your support of FISH4FUN.

@@jerryrouth6115 Hi Jerry. I fish with a few of the old Mitchells also. They are great reels. That is an amazing collection that you have. Did you buy them new back in the day or did you get them used from places like ebay and craigslist?

John, good to hear from you. I have over 50 308 and 408 models. I don't collect them except to fish with. I will be doing a special video featuring them soon. I will be showing why and how I use them. You may notice in my videos that I cut the bail off. Thanks for watching and thinks for taking time to comment.

Travis, you are way ahead of me on the catfish. My personal best is 42 lbs and I caught it on a jug. The way I fish doesn't result in many sizable fish. But I love fishing Truman also. Mostly I troll when fishing there. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment.

White bass stripers or wiper (hybrid)
@jerryrouth61157 жыл бұрын
We have both white bass and the hybrids which locals call Wipers because they are a cross between the White bass and the Stripped Bass which actually comes from salt water or brackish water. The wipers often get close to 20 lbs here. I don't often fish for them but quite often I catch them while fishing for Walleye.

Any tips for targeting walleye below the dam? Taking my boys in a couple days and would like to get in some eyes.
@jerryrouth61155 жыл бұрын
Caleb, I have never fished for Walleye below the dam. I do know that those who can find a place to launch are catching Walleye off rocky points in approximately 20 foot of water. They are using jigs and road runners tipped with night crawlers. I haven't had a chance to fish for Walleye anywhere yet. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

Are the crappie bitting at the dam now that u know of
@jerryrouth61156 жыл бұрын
Darius, they will normally bite the year around but with the weather we are having I wouldn't think it would be very good. Don't forget the dock fishing at the dam in the back water. There are several docks that is sometimes better than the spillway. Also in downtown Warsaw at the access ramp area behind the police station are several docks that offer some good crappie fishing. As soon as the spring rains start, all these areas will be good. Thanks for watching FISH4FUN.

Would you happen to know how high the water is?
@jerryrouth61157 жыл бұрын
I don't know the specific body of water you are asking about but here in SW Missouri is high enough that Truman Reservoir only has two launch places open!!!! I took a trip and checked out my launch spots on Pomme de Terre River, Sac River and Niangua River and they are all to full and murky to fish. I am going to start fishing small lakes where the water level is less a factor. I'm sure this isn't much help but It's the best I can do. Thanks for commenting.

Hey Jerry! How is the white bass fishing below the dam this time of the year? If they start running more water due to rain will the white bass move up to the tail waters from the main lake? Thanks again for the videos!
@jerryrouth61156 жыл бұрын
Jamie, honestly I haven't been and haven't heard. Our water level is real low and I don't think white bass will be good there until we get some rain. If they run water, the White Bass will definitely be there. Thanks buddy

Yes, they are pre-historic looking creatures. They do not bite lures so you have to snag them to catch them. In Missouri we have a grabbing season for them. They get very large, some over 100 pounds!!! Thank you so much for taking time to comment on my video.

@jerryrouth61156 жыл бұрын
Darius, there is excellent cat fishing at the dam. There is an elevated platform on the North side of the dam that is intended for handicap fishing but everyone uses it. There are cat fishermen there all the time. When my dad was alive he fished there all the time. There is about a half mile of bank fishing places on both sides. Thanks for watching FISH4FUN.
