I've seen several videos of this particular Catfish jug. In the comments there were many that said it doesn't stay vertical when a fish was on. Filling it half way with water is a simple ingenious solution to that problem. I'm assembling the parts to make some of these and I'm glad that I saw this before I started assembly. Makes sense. You are a smart young man and make good tutorial videos. I appreciate your know how and for taking the time to show us how it's done. Austin, TX

Thanks for the video and explanation. After being too busy with life for the last 20+ years, I find myself getting back to the enjoyments of life, like fishing. That's being driven by the blessings of 3 grandkids in the last 5 years. My oldest grandson is wanting to go fishing. So I bought me a new boat (yes I'm spoiling them). I'm excited about having the opportunity to take and teach him, and my other two grandkids. I can't think of a better way to get them hooked on fishing than running jugs (noodles) for catfish. Here in middle Georgia, the lakes are awesome for catching catfish on jugs for most of the year. You're going to catch fish which is what a child needs to get them interested in it. I'm building new noodles and have watched many videos trying to get new ideas. Addition of water is a new one for me. I'm not sure that I'll add water to mine, but I understand the logic. I might try it on a couple of noodles. Not sure. But I wanted to say thank you for the idea and explanation. I'm on a quest for the perfect noodle. 😁 Keep the lines tight. Take care.

Drill a hole on each end and it'll fill up with water on the lower end and relieve pressure on the upper end once the fish takes the bait. Maybe do a couple of holes on each end to make the water rush in it quicker. More simple than trying to fill with water (that will eventually evaporate anyway), and lighter if you're carting around a bunch of them at once.

I would think it could go to far that way and water log it defeating the purpose.

I use 2 ft schedule 40 glued ends with 18in noodle with out water in it and tie string around one end and made weights with concrete in 18 oz solo cups with a eyebolt so they don't blow everywhere, just make sure you have enough line to hit bottom

the difference is the size of the pvc pipe, many people use 1/2 inch pvc because they are much lighter...they stand up with the 1/2 inch the 3/4 inch pvc pipe won't... with that said i love the alteration of putting some water in it...makes sense!

I built mine that way when you posted it before. I had 3/4 Schedule 40 on hand i bought some oak wooden dowel to fit inside cut to 1 inch guled to flush to end. Then glued cap on put 4 inch peice 1/2 inch reed bar 4 oz water used the pool noodles from lowes that fit tite. Ever thing is same as you.the reason for the wooden dowel is when reed bar slaps bottom it doesn't loosen the eye bolt.i drilled a small starter hole for eye bolt and put Gorilla glue on threads. Mine have 12 to 18 ft of 60 lb andy leader line a 1/0 barrel 3/4 egg sinker tied above it with 16 to 24 in of andy leader and L198 eagle claw 5/0 circle hook. Sorry for long Description tku tite lines

Mr Kenny, this idea (with Dad!) is genuinely brilliant! Making some new Jugs now and will employ y'all idea for Lake Gaston Jugging! There is actually a fair amount of science involved with making these devices and I am in complete agreement with your title of the video!

Put no weights, no water, no I bolt, no glue, and only one cap. Cut the pipe barley longer than the noodle after one cap is already on. Just drill a small hole in the cap and run your line through it and tie knots so the line can't pull back through the hole. There's no need for them to stand up on their own. You will see them bobbing or standing while the fish is pulling.

How about adding cheap cooking oil instead of water to prevent the metal weight from rusting over time. You could probably use less than half bc oil is heavier than water. Just another option. But your idea is a great addition to a great jug design

Just wondering. If you can drill holes in the end you want to sink. Where ever the hole is drilled will fill up to that point with water. Trapping air in the top.

when I was younger we made some monster jug lines for big fish we got tired of loosing them. a fairly small fish can dunk a 1 gallon milk container. was we went all out we go some 3" pipe and cut it 14-16 pieces put a cap on both ends and drilled a hole a in the middle of one cap to accommodate for the valve stem so we could add pressure to it. then we tried to sink them in the pool. Yeah not going to happen. then we used light weight steel cable for the leader line worked out great and they don't come up missing unless someone stole them. we have caught some fairly big fish off of these 50s and 60s. but not at all cheap if you had to buy everything. good video
@passthetunaporfavor6 жыл бұрын
Dude, adding pressure to the pipe would make no difference whatsoever to the buoyancy of the pipe. It's all about the volumetric displacement of water. Now go catch fish.
@heathschwab7 жыл бұрын
I've talked to one guy that's does the same. he added long piece of bolt inside. didn't see if it stood up like yours its on fb. I make mine different. but in want to do some like this for this next time I go noodling so thanks I'm gonna try it your way I like that. god bless. and fish on.

You don't have your line and weight on your new noodle, that's why it didn't stand up when you tested it.

@flatlandtexan18533 жыл бұрын
There might be two things on the float issue. One is weight. The other may be pipe size. The ones I have are 1/2” inside, and 3” to 4” length rebar

@christopherbiegel95538 жыл бұрын
You might also try drilling some holes in the lower half so it will fill up with water once it's pulled under by the fish. Could be a little simpler method if it worked. Look forward to seeing these in action!
@ronsheppard98957 жыл бұрын
Yep.. Popping a hole in the bottom just above the lower cap and another hole just below the noodle creates an air pocket in the top half.... good thinking. As everyone continues to experiment , we'll get this noodle thing perfected. :)

@joelmadden2816 жыл бұрын
you're supposed to use a chunk of rebar for the counterweight no water that way it lays flat against the surface until the fish pulls the rebar and stands it up right the fishes wait will make your noodle stand at attention fully erect unless you are home to the bottom you have made everything correctly except for the adding of the water adding the water only makes the noodle stand at attention like it is already been activated by fish you have to watch for the bobbing instead of the noodle being flat on the surface and rising to let you know you have took a strike everyone does it different like your video everybody makes noodles different just depends on in the South or the North east or west good job God bless you

@billthomas78865 жыл бұрын
Adding water doesn't add weight, water is neutral weight in water. You can put all the holes in it you want, but the buoyancy comes from the noodle. It the noodle lays on it's side it just needs more weight inside the pipe. You might trying adding sand instead of water.
@googtube89383 жыл бұрын
Shorten the lower part of the pvc to just below noodle instead of filling it with water to displace the air ???
@1201chesapeake2 жыл бұрын
Since this video is about 5 years old I am wondering if the metal did rust very badly from being in the water all the time. I guess it would not be that bad to every 2 years cut the lower cap off, replace the rebar and refill water and put on new cap.
@rubensalazar9094 Жыл бұрын
Good point. Didn't think of rust. When I get the eye hooks I will search for stainless steel. I won't use screw in ones but bolt ended ones where I can tighten it with a nut. Think I'll strip the bolt threads with needle nose to keep it from loosening. But rust could cause you to lose a good fish after much use. Tks again

Also I saw one video where rebar wasn't used as a weight, concrete was.

Only problem with yours is the water is gonna make the metal rust. I don't have water in mine and they work fine. You gotta remember you also have a weight on the end of your line which will help it stand up straight. The metal I use in mine is probably 3x longer than what you're using so maybe that's why yours aren't working.

The other thing I would do would used a eyebolt with machined threads with nuts and washers instead of your course thread eyebolt cause there is really not enough surface contact on the PVC for the course thread to hold properly. Happy Fishing. Here fishy fishy.

Your pipe is too short. The longer the pipe, the more downward force the weights will have when the fish bite and disturb the weights. This law of physics is called leverage.
@anonymous_friend4 жыл бұрын
That weight is going to rust out and turn to muck inside the pipe. Try shorter pipe and more weight.

I've caught plenty of HUGE catfish using threaded eye bolts. Never once had one rip out. You pull the fish up from the line not by the pole.a fish can't get much leverage pulling on it...
