Others have identified the ray you caught as a bullnose ray, not a manta ray, which is correct. They are harmless and their numbers are pretty good. Still, thanks for trying hard to get the hook out. I remember that day when the storm came through where I live in Daytona Beach because right before the storm hit I myself caught a small grunt of a 5 pound jack out of the halifax. Very fun fish to target and catch. Ever since then I been targeting jack but have been catching other species of fish. Challenging part of saltwater fishing is you can't specifically target fish and keep catching the same fish multiple times.
