me and a couple of friends went to belize for a month right before covid erupted! it was so amazing! we got dropped of 30 minutes with boat from the island we were at, and fished there on a reef for like 8-10 hours!! it was soooo much fun! i lost a houndfish that was approx 6-7 feet long, and we got several cuda´s at 13+ and 3 cudas that was almost 22 pounds!! all on pretty light tackle tbh and they all took on either jerkbait, popper or swimbait!! all float so we could see every explosion from the cuda biting!! first cuda i got was a 2 pound with a light trout rod! 3-12 gram i think it was! so much fun!! love to see you have fun with sharks and cudas! i miss it!

@keywestdonor69543 жыл бұрын
Try working your top waters at half speed. Sometimes those fast twitches don’t work as well as something a little more rhythmic and slow. And it could increase the snook bite while decreasing the barracudas.

I was watching some videos of you hooking ‘cuda and Tarpon and I think the reason that they are biting you off or just getting away is because of fishing so low to the water in your kayak. If you are up higher off the water, that makes your rod tip higher and a higher degree of slant of your line, from your rod to the fish. With Tarpon, I would think you need more upward pull and in the kayak, you are only getting pull directly across from the fish to you. This means when the fish is swimming towards you, it can just shake its head to dislodge the hook. The fish have a natural tendency to want to swim down when they’re hooked and when you are pulling up with a greater angle, this means greater hook security in the fish’s mouth. With the Barracuda, same deal, but if you are pulling across instead of up, the teeth on both jaws are sawing at your line. When you are pulling up, only the upper teeth are hitting your line. When you are in your other boat, you are standing, so you are about 2-3 feet above water with the height of the boat and another 6 or 7 feet while standing on it with your rod tip up, so your angle of pull is higher and more powerful. So in the kayak, you will probably have a lot of bad luck landing fish with bony mouths.

Nice job on all of the cool videos...thanks. Been going to the Keys since 1979 or so...and watched the rest of Florida get hosed by all of the wrong people and the City Councils who get paid ($14...?) to let them. Thinking that since barracudas are so important for cleaning up the system, and don't taste great (big ones can make you sick...ciguatera)...it is probably best to let them all go...also for the example this sets for the chuckle-heads who need one. I understand eating a dolphin or kingfish or cobia...grouper too, but since the FWC/etc. are so proud of a 1 square mile sanctuary...while Piney Point lets radioactive waste go into Tampa Bay...and the sea-grass is damaged or gone in the Indian River (?) Lagoon...algae blooms may cause Parkinsons or who knows what (but at least everyone feels like a man when they fertilize their yard weekly (weakly), or crap in their leaking septic tank)...everybody needs to wake up and start fixing things, or gorgeous Florida will end up dead.
