@@bless8861 I agree a dog can keep you going but I disagree in this particular case. The guy actually was in contact with his family. He talked to them. He never asked for help. This seems like a scam. The guy claimed he didn't ask for help because of pride. The story doesn't add up.

@@brianpark2766It’s really not strange if you know the whole story. He deeply wanted to return to Australia to be with friends and family after such an ordeal. In order to take the dog to Australia with him, the dog would have had to been quarantined for months and months in isolation. After all they had been through, he didn’t want to put the sweet dog through that. So one of the rescuers stepped up to adopt the dog into his family to ensure he was cared for and had a good life going forward.😊

I am from Mexico and things don't match. He gave away the dog immediately after rescue. He did not want to keep the dog. Also, he didn't send a Mayday / SOS signal when he could do it... it's all fake. Watch him sign contract with movie directors and book authors now.

He said he felt terrible for bringing the dog because he was losing hope and knew he took her to a death trip. So to make her happier he gave her most of the food they captured. He had a harpoon and used it to catch bigger fish until a really big one as he says yanked it from his hands underwater, after that he could only fish with a line.

Now he gave the dog to the Captain of the fishing boat…….out of kindness. Australia has a super strict quarantine rules for pets. Basically weeks, or even months of isolation in a cage as a result. His dog, being a recent stray, such conditions would be spirit breaking. They will always have a bond, and he will never forget her. Plus she sounds like true sea dog!

He apparently used buckets to collect rainwater during storms. Plus, raw fish have a lot of water content in them.

At least his boat stayed afloat. There was a guy whos boat capsized years ago and he was stuck in an emergengy raft for 2 1/2 months. He wrote a book called "Adrift: 76 days lost at sea". Amazing story and worth the read.

There's something not right about this. He's on a sailboat with what appears to be an intact sail. If he departed Le Paz he could have easily dead-reckoned or used a compass to sail back to the Americas. Even a sailboat with all electric trim can be set-up to be worked manually.

I got lost on a lake in fog once for about an hour. I can't imagine 3 months at sea without seeing anyone!! I bet his dog saved his mind. Having company, and a source of love, was probably key.

Ok, I am a sailor. This makes no sense. No compass, maps, or radio? He had sails, and you can see them on the deck. If he didn't have a rudder,he could have made one to get by easy enough. Glad they found them, but that guy never belonged on the ocean..my God. Thats the most ignorant sailor I have ever seen. Just wow.
