The water by the boulders is probably a lot warmer from soaking the sun and probably stay warm for a while when the sun isnt shining on them

So many negatives in competitions to it. As for the stores, my local “tackle shop” is also a full outdoors shop, not a chain, it’s locally owned, and is thriving. It more populated areas where the chain stores have moved in mom and pop stores are non existent. Lucky for me the local shop has pretty competitive prices so it’s a win for me. I guess it really all depends on location.

Is the lews mach 1 spinning combo medium fast a good setup for whacky and other finesse techniques. Or should I go medium/heavy?

Honestly either one should be fine! I use both a Medium and Medium Heavy for wacky rigs but if I use a stiffer hook I go with the M/H and for a lighter hook I use the medium but like I said either one should be fine!
