I fish Middle Hope Bay, North side of Sand Point in North Somerset. A very big tide (High = 11.8 M, Low = 1.3 M West Super Mare) in the Bristol Channel poses a few unexpected problems. I show the typical Bristol Channel rigs I use and how I bait up.
Will always recommend you try and look at Bristol Channel Marks at low tide, as the tidal range can be massive
Tackle used :
Rods (Daiwa Tournament Surf TNS142M, Daiwa Saltist 1422M-AU)
Penn multipliers : Mag 525's (Mag 3 , Mag 4 versions)
Pulley pennel rigs with size 1/0 - 2/0 hooks (Varivas big mouth extra) , Up over rig with size 2 hooks
Varivas sport 20 lb main line , 92 lb shock leader (Trabucco flour coated line)
170 - 210 g grip leads
Bait used :
Fresh lugworm and ragworm supplied by Reel Fun Fishing at Portishead. Frozen mackerel and squid
Parked in the National Trust carpark at Sand Point - Free as I'm a Trust member. No pay machine , you have to use the pay by phone app / number
To access the mark , a tough walk is required, initially up 120 steps , then approx 1.1 km (20 mins) to the mark. The steps are the most direct route to the mark (At the far end of the Carpark) - You can walk towards the point itself up an easier inclined path with steps, but you have to double back at the top to get to Middle Hope Bay. The fields have roaming sheep, so keep dogs on a lead.
You'll need wellingtons , ideally studded to give you security on the rock marks at high tide . Very muddy at low tide
