Awesome. Pretty cool how you’re going to fish these places. This is stuff you don’t get to see every day as an American. The Danube is a massively historic spot!

Thanks! Yes, the Danube is an amazing river, I just scratched the surface fishing that small stretch.

Would you believe it. It is not just for Americans that getting a fishing license in Austria is difficult. I emigrated 1979 to USA. From Austria. I was not an American then, but I got the fishing license for Lower Austria back then in the SAME place in Vienna that you are showing... this system is a holdover from the old empire and only nobility was allowed this LOVELY PRIVILEGE of fishing, back in the Empire days, and it is such an HONOR to be granted a fishing license (!!!).... And if you further believe me ..it was ONE OF THE REASONS why I emigrated. And the Asp is called Rapfen oder in Austria ..SCHIED. There in the Wolga river (and other rivers) they live by the THOUSANDS. I loved the Danube fishing, unfortunately now it is mostly a protected area, downstream of Vienna and fishing is only allowed in few places. I remember there were plenty of fish before, and then the river started smelling like detergent or like oil from Schwechat, and paint solvent, and no surprise, the Grundeln suddenly had very visible tumors, I caught them by hand under stones, for bait, but then they completely disappeared. Slowly the Danube recovered, but below Vienna I believe that fishing is still not allowed. Well I live in Maine now. Tschues papa und fall net.

Thank you for sharing! The fishing regulations over there make our US fishing laws look relaxed. Americans (myself included) at times take for granted the abundance of outdoor resources we have available. We can buy a fishing license online for any state in minutes. No written test, no crazy laws. But only experiencing the difficulty like in Austria and then returning to USA...makes one appreciate what we here for lakes and rivers and populations of fish.

Thumbs up for your fishing tourism. And I noticed too, that indigenous population can be pretty protective of their local fishing terrain. It looks like you were fishing Morava river in Angern an der March in Austria. Morava is a tributary of Danube. Danube itself is waaaay wider. But fishing is fishing.
@troylindner5 жыл бұрын
Marko D Marko, thanks for watching! Yes, Morava, you’re correct. License to on Danube from Bratislava (for one day) was very expensive. Happy to experience some Central European fishing for the first time! Looking forward to going back.

@@troylindner you could have gotten a license for 5km of morava for 20€, you got the "biggest" package available which Covers way more area.

This is not Danube but Morava river ! (Not this one in Serbia). It's too small for a Danube. And this ferry at 3:00 ! There is not ferry between Austria and Slovakia on Danube River. I'm Slovak and this is Morava river near villages "Záhorská Ves" on Slovak side and Angern on Austrian side and this ferry is familiar to me. Look on Google maps Ferry Angern - Záhorská Ves Zollamtsstraße 2261, 2261 Angern an der March, Austria maps.app.goo.gl/b6Nxm8KZresksfKZ6. The Morava River flows into the Danube.And this place is approximately 60 km upstream of the confluence with the Danube, but this not the Danube. Sorry.

how much cost the license to fish? amazing
@troylindner5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I think was about $30 for the day pass. There are much cheaper options there. The full annual Austria license is difficult to get as a foreigner. It's in German and only offered a few times a year. The day passes are better and easier.

you couldn't fish the river in Salzburg?
@troylindner5 жыл бұрын
I would have liked to. Just had one day to fish and this area of Angern was the closest for a day pass.
@ronk45375 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response. Sounds like they have pretty strict fishing laws. Did you need a passport to get that day pass? what other documentation did you need? A few years ago my wife and I went to Munich and Bertisgaden with a side trip to Salzburg and garmish partikerken. I wanna go again and I would like to do some fishing in some of those Bavarian lakes.
@troylindner5 жыл бұрын
@@ronk4537 Yes, you need a passport. For Austria, there's a test you must take in order to get the full license. It happens once a month, and I think only offered in German. The license office in Vienna was only open M-W-F. I heard that Germany is even more strict with fishing license.

Wow, no wonder their Zander grow so big, no one can fish for them! I also enjoyed how you picked up on the local language when you were walking through the thorns.
