Sadly she sank yesterday, just off Lizard Point. The two crew were rescued by the RNLI. Both men are themselves also RNLI crew volunteers, so it was all rather personal.

Do I assume correctly that haul out is done at low tide and then she is refloated at high tide, or if there some other water to getter the boat back in the water?

This is how the Cornish fishermen work from coves, which aren’t protected by harbour walls, and they have to be hauled out of the reach of waves, especially in the winter…….. And this can be seen in loads of parts of Cornwall, but this cove is on the Lizard peninsula’s eastern coast, and it faces eastwards up the English Channel……..

Does this not damage the underside of boat ? It's hard work fishing as it is without having take your boat up onto the shore every time, from portrush northern ireland

The keels are protected by a steel capping. They will obviously get scraped but they protect the structure from damage.

They are pushed out to sea when they go to work, and then they haul out after they have finished, because they don’t have a harbour for protection, so they are pulled up past the point where the sea will get to, and then they are safe……..

didn't have a tape measure handy at the time. Average man height 5'10" so i'm sure you could work it out roughly. :)
