Hi Johan great video and well done on the pikes you caught, Johan could you please tell me what weight fly line you use to cast your big pike flies, as I have been using a intermediate and sink 3 but seem to be struggling to cast the pike flies I have tied, even using a big daddy 9 weight, I must admit casting big pike flies is new to me Johan but its like the fly line does not want to travel through the eyes of my fly rod with ease, in fact I have found it so difficult I feel I must be using the wrong type of fly line, as I can cast a standard 7 weight 10 foot rod fishing for trout very well and get distance on my casts, so please tell me if you can what am I doing wrong Johan.Best regardsPete.

Hi Pete. I'm using nine weight gear all the time.Some years ago when I used really big flies (30-40 cm) I had a home made line.It was built of a DH shooting head whit no front taper at all and also very heavy (26 gram ). Nowadys my flies aren't so big anymore,mostly 15-20 cm and also try to make the light dressed which has lead to that I can use normal lines like Big Daddy,Airflo 40+ sniper Rio etc,etc You said it feel your line doesn't travel properly thru the guides,My tip is to pay more attention on your flies,what type of flies are you using? Think that air resistance is more likely to kill the line speed than the size of the flies.It helped me a lot when I downsized the flies and tried to tie them sparingly.Have found that all kind of bucktail decievers are good :) Also because I fish from a kayak I don't need much length to my casts,12-15 m is more than enough

Hi Johan thank you for getting back to so quickly, the flies I have been using have been tied on a 4O hook and they are the same or near to the pike flies you tie yourself, and when casting them if I am lucky I might cast 6m depending on the wind, the line I am using is made by Airflo but it is standard trout fly line, my leader is 30lb and connected loop to loop to my wire trace and to my fly with a snap link, I feel this is correct but as I said the line does not travel through the eyes of the rod smoothly, so Johan do you think I need to change my line to the Big Daddy line or is it just me not able to cast big pike flies, any advise would be great. I'm not an expert in either casting or lines but I would use a line made for pike fishing,usually they got a shorter and heavier head with a more agressive tapering too. Guess you're using double haul too ? 6 meter sounds very short imo too even with a "wrong" line

Hi Johan thanks for your advise pal, realised that I am using standard trout fly line and also to much bulk to my pike flies and I was casting about 9 meter lol, I no that as I made a cast on grass just to measure it, so I will get the big daddy pike line and let you no how I get on all the best Pete.
