Bottom sweeper jig 1/8 keeps on bottom and hook always stays up for sheepies n blk drum/reds

Dope video! I use small j hooked and trim the claws off the fiddlers so the real swallow there mouths are so small on sheepshead.

Justin, We use to break off the claws before hooking them. SH will pull the crab off the hook by the claw without touching the hook. Break them out and use as chum.

When fishing crabs , carry a board with you and knock the barnicles off the pillings . Will bring in all the fish. Used to catch a mess of sheepheads , snappers and sometime groupers .

Either use a bottom sweeper jig or when u put the fiddler on tear off the big claw and use that hole to run your hook thru. Circle hooks are ok but I like to use small j hooks.let em start to move with it before u set the hook. 👌

So, I just moved to Florida a couple years ago and have heard several people say they were going to TARGET sheepshead. ? I grew up on Lake Erie, & NOBODY, well not many up there fish Sheepshead becuz theirs considered bottom feeders? Basically the same people who target catfish are the people who target Sheephead. Is there a difference between the two Sheepshead?

Yes sheepshead are a saltwater fish. I’m not sure what species you mean that lives in a lake.

I like to use a size 1 mustad or vmc for sheepshead, freeline I always miss the bite with circle hook

2/0 long shank hook for sheeps. Tried and true for 13”-25”. You need the long shank to get past those teeth and get a good deep hook set
