That trigger fish at 6:30 ish is called a broomfish in Hawaii and its actually quite good eating. I spearfished for a few years and saw them a few times without knowing they were good table fare, but then started harvesting them when I found out.

I'm not new here, but that's the first time I've heard your story. It's interesting how things don't always happen the way we expect, but the outcomes can still be pretty amazing. I didn't have a dad around either but ended up with around 10 half brothers and sisters from that situation. Though it wasn't ideal, I wouldn't change it for the world, because I know that if anything changed, some of my brothers and sisters wouldn't exist.

Awesome episode, Thank You for taking the time and effort! Not your fault, I know, but did you notice how everything that possible could be was plastic? You already can't go to a beach without finding it and most of it is still yet to wash up...

Hey bro, Ill be ordering that cookbook as soon as it drops, and it'll go right next to Nick DiGiovanni's on my shelf. Living in Florida Im all about that coastal harvest, unfortunately we dont get too many mushrooms to forage for but there are some local, gourmet growers so Ill find something to add in! It would be very cool if you possibly made some other books in the future too, maybe centered on west/gulf/east coast, and heck do something for the great lakes region aswell?! Im sure your preorders are gonna go very well! Im glad you got to reconnect with your family. I lost my dad at 10 so I definitely understand having a missing part like that.

Every time I go to Japan I make sure to go to the local supermarket and purchase A5 Wagyu and grill it over coals Korean style yakiniku. Costs less than half of what I pay in the USA. The other thing I do is buy supermarket sushi platters and select choice slabs of sashimi grade fish. It’s better than what I can get at most sushi restaurants in the US except high end places.

"Floating Platform" = FAD.....some places they're common, some places legal, some place not legal....some place natural. The coolest "FAD" I've ever fished was a 40 foot container that we found about 50 - 100 miles off the coast of Hawai'i. Caught tons of Ahi and Mahimahi for about 5 days or fishing and running back to port and back out to the container until we finaly lost the container
