Wow, to see things that I was only able to feel is so eye opening. After 50 years of catching some fish, I am finally starting to understand how little I actually know. Thank You, John Skinner.

You know this is one of the coolest videos I have seen on Flounder. I fish from a jet ski and drift fish. I would swear I have missed so many fish not feeling them and then they are gone. I honestly thought they where loner fish. Yet after seeing this they definitely are not. Very cool thank you for doing this.

John, you are doing things that I have never seen other people do before for Northeast inshore fishing. We've always wondered what goes on down there and now we know. I hope you eventually get the recognition you deserve in the fishing community.

omg, so cool, loved watching this. Shocked at all the clams, so cool and the crabs...I loved that part and the flounders were cool

John, that really is surprising. Not to mention how they follow the weight, and the camera the same as if it were the bait. Don't know why that surprises me as it makes perfect sense. John, sorry you lost your camera. Glad you were able get some footage from it at least.

Well John, that's the funniest and most entertaining vid IMHO yet. The flounder with the strips in their mouths and just swimming along ahead of the sinker...LOL! I think it's time to go national T.V.

that is amazing how long the flounder follows the boat before biting. I always thought they just waited on bottom until something came by.

sorry to hear about your water seal failure and the destruction of a very expensive piece of recording gear. I'm a poor man but I'd be happy to donate a few dollars to help repair or replace that camera. words can hardly express the gratitude I have for your documentaries.

Great video, thanks for sharing! I would like to do some underwater footage on my local fresh-water lakes, but I have no idea how to set up the gopro to follow the lure like you did. Can you share your camera setup? What do you have it attached to? How do you keep it from swinging around, and can you see the footage in real time (from a synch conncection to an iphone or something), or are you just hoping for the best, and seeing what you get when you upload it back home? Thanks for any help, and sorry about your gopro frying - that's the first time I've seen that.

John, I live in San Diego and there's not much flounders, the ones we do have have are kind of small but we mainly target halibut. Do those rigs work for halibut as well? I caught a few spotted bay bass with the rig that you showed me. However, it didn't really work on rockcods.

Thanks for this video, really nice. I kayak fish in the ocean out of New Jersey as well. I have a couple of GoPros, I usually mount one up high behind me and the other I wear. How do you have the underwater camera mounted? It provides a great perspective.

if your camera gets exposed to saltwater again, immediately remove battery and rinse really good with fresh water. let it dry for a week before turning it back on.

John, how are you positioning the underwater camera? Are you drifting side-ways on your kayak and holding an extension from the yak or somehow pulling the camera along with some type of lanyard? I'm full of questions today, huh?

Can you fish for inshore winter flounder in the summer?
@killajakez5 жыл бұрын
The other day I was out fishing for blues with bunker chunks and also using the gulp and bucktail setup for flounder. 2 hours with the flounder setup, and I hooked 4 sea robins. But I got a flounder on a bunker chunk! Do they change appetites like stripers do? Or was it just luck?
@JohnSkinnerFishing5 жыл бұрын
It's just one fish. I wouldn't change any strategies based on that.

What the difference from summer flounder and winter flounder?
@1973Saved10 жыл бұрын
Summer flounder (fluke) usually grow much larger, have larger mouths full of sharp teeth & are much more aggressive than winter flounder. You can get more details if you wish by doing a google search etc.

Hello John, I’ve been watching your videos, and I tried to follow your methods, I live in NYC ( queens ) and I purchased a inflatable boat, and wanted to go Long Island sound and fish, but they didn’t allowed me to launch the boat...the location I went was wildwood state park...can you please tel me where I gotta go if I want to fish using my boat or even a kayak ( for Long Island sound ) because is nearly impossible to find a location..I always end up in people’s back yard..trying to find a spot. Thank you so much

Hello and thanks for the great video. Just a quick question are kayaks really that easy to maneuver around in open water. I'm thinking if getting one but all I have it to compare to is my 16foot canoe. I know on a windy day the canoe is almost impossible to maneuver on a lake never mind the ocean, is there really that much of a night and day difference between a kayak and canoe?
@JohnSkinnerFishing10 жыл бұрын
I also have a 17-ft canoe. A kayak is very different! I wouldn't think of messing around on open water with a canoe.
@KC0801610 жыл бұрын
A kayak is much more stable than a canoe. I have fished in the ocean in NJ with kayaks for 4 years now. I started on an 11 foot Ocean Kayak Scramber. Now I use a Malibu 2 XL which is designed for 2 people but but works well with 1. It's very wide 34" and very stable in the ocean. I added my own Scotty rod mounts. The only time I've ever tipped either was while having fun in the surf with nothing rigged on them. I always check the surf forecasts before I go. If the surf or swell is higher than 3 feet, I won't go. Sometimes, though, the Atlantic is so calm and flat it's like a lake.

I have a question. Do you actually miss a lot of these bites (hits) or did you just not feel them at all when they were just touching the bait?
@calvinchou93679 жыл бұрын
Forget the flounder...did you see all the clams on the bottom? And they are moving. Get a net! Haha..
@debbiefinnerty67828 жыл бұрын
I know right...that was my thought, I was impressed with the clams, I even played it back and paused on those little creatures, that was awesome and the crabs showing up. I watch ALOT of underwater documentaries about fish, sharks, crocs, gators, and especially Jeremy Wades River Monster, but haven't seen clams, that many and moving around...totally awesome

John, what type of structure do you look for when you go out in the ocean for fluke?

If the crabs do learn how to work together then let's all pack it up; humans had a good run. I caught a crab on a pencil popper recently, little monster rode it all the way in like Slim Pickens. Must have passed a mussel bed, but still. If they revolt we will not recover.

A much more intelligent reaction then the usual cheering and betting on such things. we need more people like you in the world! I don't have any of my kayak stuff on KZbin but you can check out my Instagram @ha1r_c0d3 you'll know it's me because under it it'll stay "bait tending and hair trending", lol. this is awesome and so you're doing here man I love that you're getting live feed of the bite... Really appreciate the video
