You had the absolute perfect chop on that lake that day for the shallow bite. Blowing into shore moving the warmer surface water in. The IDEAL situation. No way youre getting them to bite 15 feet from the boat on a dead flat day.

The walleye chop is a must on most bodies of water. I remember I fished a whole weekend on Lake of the Woods with friends who don't fish, and it was dead calm for the whole weekend, and I kept telling them we need some chop on the water to get em going, not sure if they believed me. But on the final evening we finally got a breeze that gave us the walleye chop and the fishing was on fire, proved my point quite nicely.

Clayton thank you for the discussion on preserving the trophy fish on these lakes. I know not every lake cranks out two foot walleyes. Some don’t even crank out two foot pike. But the discussion needs to be had. If you catch a big mama breeder fish please please handle with care and send her back. These lessons on handling and proper release technique are so important. We live in world class fishing country and we want to keep it that way. Can’t let trophy fishing die like we have our trophy whitetail. No coincidence that the last world record whitetail was shot in Canada the same year the Stanley cup was last awarded in Canada. 1993

Found my new favorite lake up in Northern Sask closer to where I live. Got about 132-133" (top 5) in one morning there which almost beat my best top 5 (135) which was in Alberta of all places. I have heard good things about LML but struggled there myself. Fishing from a kayak on such a big lake is tough I suppose though since it is hard to cover much ground compared to the lake size. Also like figuring things out myself. I am sure it was just timing and tough days happen. Diefenbaker on the other hand I have done excellent at and my 2 biggest walleye are from that lake.

Agree about boat size on big lakes. Winds come up so quickly, you really don't want to get caught out in sudden four foot swells in a small boat. Great video 👍

A small boat would be like a 16 foot or less. And one with a narrow beam (width). Not saying you can’t fish the big water on calm days but to just be careful and watch ur winds :)

you know i have been following all of you canadian guys for years, and enjoying you!, but this new emphasis on split screens and ffs just makes for uninteresting viewing, more like a video game. i know it works but man it takes so much of the mystery and natural vibe out of it for me personally. most of us will never own these set ups and it is a bit off putting for it to be marketed as a must have etc.. Imagine if a device like that was invented for hunters. Anyone with the $ could locate a deer using electronics and a little knowledge. maybe i'm too old for these new toys.
@chris_27146 ай бұрын
I get what you're saying. Doubt I'll ever own one either, but the value of these videos and the sonar is seeing how the fish behave to lures and where they typically hang out. Great info for any fisherman, whether you have the equipment or not.
@Justin_Mooney116 ай бұрын
Ya but he didn’t ask how you felt about ffs , nor does anyone care how you feel about it , an jus bc you’ll never have the $ for it don’t take it out on clay

Yeah, I'll never have that set up but I enjoy seeing it at work.
@canadianmeatpie82456 ай бұрын
I know how you feel, I think FFS is a super cool technology, I also doubt I'll ever have the money for one. I honestly really still enjoy the thrill of the Helix units, they are still amazing graphs that tell you if there are fish around, and they keep the mystery of fishing there, which I also still appreciate. I've been torn on FFS sonar videos, I do agree they remove some of the suprise out of fishing, which I don't like.

Watching how these guys use ffs today is no different from when older guys watched Lindners show you how to use the graphs of old! Keep up the good work Clay!
