in Aussie land you know "the land down under"? Yabbies are crawdads, crawfish.

Nice catches. Those kelp greenling and the surfperch are my favorites for eating. That tope shark was pretty awesome. I have been trying to get one for the past couple years unsuccessfully. Were those guys fishing the end of the pier? Do you know what they used for bait? 👍

So are the kelp cod not good to eat?

Its so weird how different lake perch and ocean perch are
@rodneywirthlin28342 жыл бұрын
were the shrimp the only bait you used?
@seasonaloutdoorswitherin2972 жыл бұрын
yes but, there are sandworms and toobworms that I can use I used shore crab that you find under rocks until it became a non harvestable species.

where did you dig the sandshrimp at
@seasonaloutdoorswitherin2972 жыл бұрын
At low tide you can get these sand shrimp at the boat basin right at the entrance to the fishing peer.

@seasonaloutdoorswitherin2972 жыл бұрын
Your right . This year there was a bunch of sharks being caught. I do see people catching dog sharks every year just not as many.

As of March 3, 2022 - taupe sharks are critically endangered (according to wiki). So yes, that's a bummer to see those apex predators getting caught and killed. Especially when we are allowed to catch less and less other species due to dwindling numbers. The predator/prey systems are dependent both directly and indirectly
@WAFishQuest2 жыл бұрын
The harbor is a rookery. So may be the worse possible time to catch them as well. (That said I don't think any individual angler is out of line for keeping one, as long as they eat it... Regs may need to change).

I thought they banned digging shrimp or using any wild caught bait
@peterjennings76652 жыл бұрын
Surprised you didnt catch anu flounder or rock bass
@seasonaloutdoorswitherin2972 жыл бұрын
That spot has flounder but in 20 years I have only caught 2. As far as the rockfish I go closer to the rocks to catch them. This spot has very few snags. I only loose gear when a fish breaks the line.

Are kelp cod good eating
@seasonaloutdoorswitherin2972 жыл бұрын
They have a taste that you will have to decide for yourself. I have eaten them and, the meat is soft with a small flakey pattern. There is a bitter or off taste about them so what I do is beer batter for them.
@duckwacker8720 Жыл бұрын
Not kelp cod. They're Greenling.

The current Washington state record for a Tope shark is 41 pounds, caught in 2018 by a 10 year old girl.

Illegal to take a six Gill shark 🖕🏻
@seasonaloutdoorswitherin2972 жыл бұрын
I don't know anything about this shark. The person holding it fishes for them off the dock and called this one a Tope Shark.
@duckwacker8720 Жыл бұрын
It's not a sixgill. We catch those in Tacoma.
