I got to go fishing for a rare Bass in Georgia with ‪@AaronsOutdoor1‬
We kayaked about 8 miles on the Tallapoosa River in search of 1 of the 10 black bass species in Georgia, the Talapoosa bass. It is also considered a redeye bass because there are several different types of bass that look similar to it.

I caught one this past July floating down with some friends. I was tearing up some Chanel Catfish and bass on a small bait holder hook, a bobber, and the small frogs I found in the patches of grass.

Invest in a kayak anchor to stop your drift in order to boat a fish. They are excellent in allowing you to sit in swift waters and fish the eddies.

Pretty fair success ratio for a stream that off-color; when the streams around here get like that, I'm wasting my time. Last friday I fished a little tributary of the Tangipahoa river here in Louisiana; shallow and sand/gravel filled, but if you found any pockets with water over a foot deep, the fish were there. Caught a couple of nice spotted bass (btw, our spots look a lot different from the one you caught up there - I really think they're a different subspecies), but the one I missed I wish I could have brought to hand - I had a shadow bass that got off at the last instant. I went back the next day and the creek was about a foot higher and muddy from rain - unfishable.

I'm little late to this video. I laugh when you said a "nice little creek" a the beginning. Your fishing in a river! lol It's the Tallapoosa River's head waters. Up steam from you it's very swallow. But it becomes much bigger as it flows south thru Alabama. It was a main transportation water route for the Creek Indians. Great video, keep them coming.

John, I know kayak fishing is not your main thing, but brother, if you can find a way to put a rudder system on that kayak you will have so much more control. You will be able to leave your paddle parked most of the time and control the direction of your drift when going under trees and through the fast water over those rocks. A rudder is a game changer, especially on the river. If you ever wanna do a test run, I can set you up to fish in Mount Juliet area with one of my kayaks. I've got three with rudders.

That's so cool. I knew about the different "redeye" bass, but seeing specific ones like Coosa versus the Tallapoosa is very awesome. The Tallapoosa river runs through Randolph county which is only forty five minutes to an hour from where I live and my Daddy is from there. We love fishing the Tallapoosa. We have fished many sections of the Tallapoosa from Randolph county to Buttston outside of Lafayette, Alabama. We usually just catch Spotted bass, Largemouth bass, Bluegill and Redbreast sunfish. I have even caught a nice two to three pound channel catfish on a rebel crawfish crankbait. Needless to say, the Tallapoosa can hold so fun fishing, and I hope I can go back soon! I hope y'all had a great time!

It is a Redeye Bass. Some biologists consider the Redeyes from different rivers in their range as separate species. There are Coosa, Warrior, Cahaba, Tallapoosa, and Chattahoochee Bass instead of just Redeyes. Then there is the Bartram's Bass of the Savannah River drainage, which is completely different from any Redeye.

That was a really good looking creek. I floated a creek that I had high hopes for a long time ago and the creek got really stained while I was floating it. I guess it stormed up stream and it completely messed up the fishing. We also had to drag over alot of logs because of downed trees. I think I remember catching like 2 fish lol. You never know what to expect when exploring new areas. 👊👍

You should get the lews hank parker spinning rod and reel combo and do a review on them, it’s a great combo for the viewers that are just starting off fishing or for creek fishing! it’s only $25 and it comes pre spooled, but I throw 10lb power-pro braid and it works perfect, you should look into getting it and making a video review on it and fishing with it in this creek! Just a suggestion, anyways man always enjoy watching your videos! Keep em comin!!

He keeps it simple with spinning reels, light line (braid and mono), fluorocarbon leaders (for braid), and tends to fish smaller baits or at least smaller than I’m used to. This is a very effective way to target multiple species and I believe that’s why he fishes this way. You can tell he just loves catching fish no matter what the species and seems to enjoy a variety. This is why I like his videos because it’s fishing in its purest form.
