Never fished for Grayling but looks like it would be a lot of fun on light tackle

They are great sport.

@LetsGoFishin60 very good fun on light tackle, i use a #5 9ft rod for dries and wets and a 11ft #3 for nymphing.

How do you find using a nymph rod as a fly rod? the first eye is further away - are there any other differences btw I fish borders mid wales lake vrnwy area severn river vyrnwy banw p.s just subbed

I find they are OK but you have to compensate for the extra softness in the rod. I've not fished those rivers yet but hope to have a trip there soon.

Is the Grayling a course, or game fish ? I have eaten them in Sweden and wonder , in theory if they might be eaten here . Also can they be taken in winter , if they are big enough ?
@davidhumphreys7035Ай бұрын
Classed as a coarse fish as it's breeding season coincides with the coarse fish closed season, mid March to Mid June. They are increasingly fished for by fly fishermen during the autumn and winter. Not sure about eating them.

Although they are often caught during the trout season, they are the mainstay for fly fisherman during the closed trout season, (unless you are fishing for migratory game fish). I have never seen a rule on the many beats that I have fished, that suggests that you can kill and take them. Some fly only trout waters allow Grayling fishing using coarse fishing methods, outside of the trout season (now also available on some river Test beats) but again, no fish are to be killed and taken. So I would suggest that they are viewed and treated as a course species.

Classed as a corse fish wrt to fishing season. Some clubs allow grayling to be taken but most anglers return their catch.

@@gazzwells986 I know a few anglers who have caught them from BoD down river. But now the weir has been removed at Overton this summer they will probable move further upriver now.
