Fishing in California USA - Boat fishing for Bass, Halibut and Rockfish | The Fish Locker

Today I am fishing with my friend Dale onboard his small boat for anything we can find. The initial target was Thresher sharks but due to the unseasonable cool weather the fishing is 1 month behind what it usually is. We explain the rigs, the rods and the tactics as we go hitting up some lovely looking fish and having an awesome day on the water. This is the second video from our recent family vacation to California.

I'd say "International", based on where he fishes and his viewer base. For this one he was fishing the waters I grew up on and the fishing has changed a lot through the years in this area. Too bad he couldn't time travel back 50 years and to a So. Cal video from about 1970 when the fishing was really good. That said, an obviously successful trip.

Fishing is such an integral part of the culture in any state, any time of year. As a veteran, serving in the US military let me meet people from all over my country and the world and fishing was probably top 3 things that everyone I met had some sort of familial or personal experience with. I am following 1 US fisher (Eliasfishing, because in the us, besides this dude, they dont fish but they catch meaning they drag fish in with way to heavy gear as fast as possible) and he gets tonnnns of flounder. So nice to see.

That looked so cool. The mercury motor caught my eye - our boat we had that my dad, my pops, and my uncle built back in the late 50s/early 60s had a mercury motor. It outlasted the boat itself and he sold it for a lot afterwards. We had many adventures in that boat, not least almost sinking twice lol

In Florida we have bait boats. If you time it right and are lucky when you put your boat in. They give you their leftover bait when they bring their boats in. They don't like having bait in their wells when they bring their boats out of the water.

That float is ingenious. I can see you using those in the future. The ability to free the line is w much needed addition to the float.

The only thing that would stop that method from working is a lot of wave action.

Great location. I grew up there. We would also dive those oil rigs and spear yellowtail tuna. One of the other great things to harvest were giant sea scallops on the rig. These can get the size of dinner plates.
