Took out the Butter Boat to South San Francisco to look for some Halibut. I was using Herring caught from the bay and had a good amount of bites in such a short amount of time.

Man, when he said, 'If I do [catch a Halibut], this one's for you, dad', and silently paused staring off into the distant water, that really hit home and got me emotional. My dad passed away 10 years ago just after I finished High School. He loved eating fish and seafood, I always wished that we could have gone fishing together but we never got that chance to share that experience together before he passed away. I'm glad you shared that fishing connection with your dad and could share that experience with him. I hope to one day go fishing with my future kids and share that connection and experience with them. RIP your father, brother.

He taught me to fish and some of the best times with him were fishing so after the funeral I went fishing with him in my heart and when I think of him and get the blues I grab my rods and go fishing with him again and I feel better. They say time will heal, I hope so. I feel your pain.

Matt, I used to go on fishing trips with my dad before he passed away. He died when I was 3. I went fishing maybe 2-5 times since his death 20+ years ago. I found your channel when I moved to California this year and it was like reigniting a flame inside me. I went all in at the beginning of 2021 and I've been spending most of my free time fishing the shores, rivers, and lakes of California. The first fish I caught felt like my dad was sitting right next to me. Thanks, Matt! Your videos brought me so much happiness and a new money pit hobby!

Great video. Been a subscriber for a little while. Not a really long time. But awhile. I lost my dad on December 7th 2019 from sudden cardiac arrest. He was amazing. He taught me how to fish (grew up in WA) and go crabbing. I live in TX now (since 1994) and would go back every summer to visit. He and I would go fishing and crabbing. When I had my daughter, she started going. And then my husband, who grew up in Texas, my dad taught him and his daughter how to fish. I miss my dad with every breath I take. Every time I head to the water out here to fish, I take something of his with me. I know he is in heaven. It just makes me feel better. Love your channel. Stay safe and God bless.

The pause after "this one's for you dad...". That shit hit. I feel you bro. People say with time you get over it but I don't believe that's 100% true. With time you get use to it. God bless you and yours my man

So sorry to hear about your Dad's passing Matts. Lost my Dad when I was 3yrs old, and my Mom several years ago. I miss her everyday. I know all that you learned from your Dad you will pass on to your own very lucky kids! On a happier note, just received my second hoodie from you, the lingcod one, along with a matching lingcod cap! The hoodies are high quality and are really warm and substantial! Wore one when it got really cold here in NYC and we lost our heat...kept me totally warm! No one should have any questions about purchasing merch from you!

My thoughts go out to you man. Loss is unquestionably confusing and difficult. It's hard to be mindful or aware of those seemingly insignificant moments with loved ones on a daily basis. Once they pass, those memories tend to stick out the most for some reason. Just by your thoughtfulness and demeanor, It seems you really cherished those times with your dad. Good luck to you Matts.

My Mom and Dad took me fishing nearly every weekend during the summer and fall when I was a kid. They gave me a love of fishing and the outdoors. I miss them so much and wish they were still around to see my kids enjoy fishing and the outdoors. You and I still have good memories of good loving parents sowing good seeds into our lives.

... your dad will forever keep you safe on the waters man. He would be proud if he could see what you've accomplished. And also what you will accomplish. Youre one of my favorite youtubers because of the wholesome humble content. You inspire and teach others to do so much more than we believe were capable of doing! Keep going guy!

What a way to celebrate your dad with time out on the water to catch a fish in his honor. It must be hard when you loose your dad. At least you have videos and pictures of him out with you fishing. That should bring comfort to you for the good times that you share. My Dad is 84 and I plan as soon as it is safe to take him on another fishing trip. Like you, I take lots of pictures and video.
