Fishing Lake Hemet for Big Bass!!

Fished swimbaits for the fall bass transition up in the mountains at lake Hemet. Scored 1 nice fish(monter bass) to make the long drive worth it! Fished the Jackall Gantarel all day for 2 bites and landed 1 fish on the Imakatsu Javallon Gill.

I’m 77 … used to fish Hemet when no one knew there were any bass in the lake … my dad used to hunt Thomas Mountain when he was 12 with his dad … my dad and I have caught 100’s of bass out of that lake … we used to have the lake too ourselves for over 5 years … until my ego got the best of me and I started walking the shoreline around the marina … then the word got out … Way back when they used to close the lake down for a month in January and December the rangers used to go over to Lake Mathew’s and catch bass then transfer then into lake Hemet … one year they put 169 bass in between 4#-8#’s … yep year after year when everyone was gone and the mountain lions roamed the campgrounds looking for little furry bunnies… they even put in severe large 2-3# crappie as well … fishing out of a boat helps … If you know where the underwater rock pile trout feeding stations are. When my folks sold their trailer I gave away my Rockpile photo locations … eventually the bass clubs started showing up on the lake and raped it … then someone brought up Florida’s and introduced them… But I do have one of those most likely northern strain from Mathew’s hanging on my show wall … I’d caught that bass at least 3-4 times in five years … then my dad finally caught it … we took it up to that store on HWY 74 and weighed it … 10#’s 1oz … 10-1 … it had two trout in its belly … we never told anyone for fear of bass fever showing up and raping the lake even sooner … my dad and I used to target the larger catfish in the lake come sundown and early mornings … he’s got me beat with I think a 26#’der… I never caught one over 22#’s … I noticed the bass you caught looks like a Florida strain … Don’t see anyway to post a photo of that 10-1 or I would do so… so you could see the color difference…

How is shore access there? I'm going to be in the area in the coming weeks and curious if its worth exploring.

seems pretty easy to walk about 1/3-1/2 of the lake but not sure after all this rain theyve had.
