Fishing Licenses - Ontario - Are They Required

Just about all Canadian provinces and most US states will require you to hold a fishing license or permit even if you are just a recreational angler. Here I answer some questions from my blog about fishing licenses and conservation authority in Ontario.

Hi! I have a question for you about limits! I cant seem to find anywhere whether if say I keep 2 rainbow trout, can I then keep 2 brook trout too? Or is my daily limit only 2? I ask because I have a conservation license and I would love to keep say 6 fish total, but a mix of species, all of which I'd stay within the limits on.. could you clarify this for me?

Conservation licence aggregate limit of 2 trout and salmon - 1 of which can be rainbow trout. So your 6 fish may not be permitted. Sorry. It will also depend on the FMZ that you are in.

@@fishingtalesandotherlies thanks for the info! I say six fish because say I catch catfish too. Of which I'm allowed to keep six. Can I only keep 4 catfish if I have 2 trout already?

Hello, I have a question for you regarding fisherman over 65. I understand that they don't need a license in Ontario, but I am wondering if they fall under the sports or conservation license when keeping fish. Or do they need another license to keep them?

Usually it's the conservation license regs. You can still obtain a license if you wish. ☺️

If you are 65 and over, no. It you are under the age of 65 in most places the answer is yes.

They wouldn't let me buy an outdoor card until I bought an outdoor card. I am Native American but it's being processed. Takes a couple years to process and mail it out to you. Can't wait to get it. I can fish n hunt on Crown land. My own reserve. And if I ask permission from the local Native Americans on a different reserve, I can fish n hunt on their land as well. I live in Toronto. I'm Mohawk. Brantford 6 Nations. My status gives me a dual citizenship. I can fish n hunt in the United States As well. Am I bragging? Absolutely. Lol

The goverment site Is soo unclear,im not sure how to ho about it. I'm coming from different province and I like to fish with my kids in muskoka,but I can't find any information how to go about it if I'm not from Ontario.?

If you can get to a Service Ontario office, you can just go in and buy one. You can also ask at local outdoor or tackle shops . Good luck.

Good points in your video. So I checked the rules here in Texas and the age for a fishing license is 17 and older. Fortunately I am a Disabled Vet and get mine for free. My wife gets her's for $12, Senior Adult.

I'm a vet too and this year is the first year that they are allowing serving and retired personnel to obtain a free fishing license in Ontario.
