They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Well, here on Oak island, we haven't seen that lamb yet. We got lots of lion and no lamb. So how do you fish the beach when the winds blowing 16MPH? You don't, that's how. But that shouldn't stop us from fishing. We just need to find a way to get the fish despite the weather. In this video, we will find a few alternative spots to fish as well as stop by the new 49th Street Bar and Grill. We will even include a little extra bonus footage of the crew sampling the Sands in the Surf chicken wing sauce.

Thanks for reviewing the 49th, we will definitely try it out soon! 39th is my go to location for kayak fishing. Nice and quiet out there. Like the other comment said you got to watch out for that oyster bed. You will lose some tackle here. Local kayak tour companies use that access as well.

We are off to a good start, we already lost some tackle there 😁

@@SandsintheSurf I will be down in two weeks to test my luck with losing a few more! Have you ever fished around the rocks at Dutchmans Creek and ICW?
@SandsintheSurf
@SandsintheSurf 2 жыл бұрын
@@Backtrack336 no, I haven’t. I know where you mean though. I have fished Dutchman’s creek. A little tricky to navigate at low tide but I’ve caught specks and flounder up in there. Right now the dredging boats are up there. I’m not sure if they are working or just storing the boats there but there a lot of equipment there.

Fished at Fort Fisher 2 weeks ago. Two nice Black Drum, some Mullet, Puffer, Blues, and A small Pomp. Drove down for the day. Was nice on beach, didn't expect much but stayed busy all day.

Yes, good point. I’ll probably be spending more time fishing the east end of the island for the time being.

Fished last week, croaker, silver perch, Whiting biting. Caught a monster puffer, a blue, and first flounder of the year. Fished at Jim's and just a few perch and croaker. He was working on the boat and talked to him for a bit.

The temp gets to about 70 everyday. 50s 60s at night. The wind has been blowing about 13 mph every day and it looks like it will continue, at least for this upcoming week.

fun video, and very realistic! 2 things, First , why did you choose the second spot? I understand moving, but the trick is knowing where to move to? Second, where can you get the ghost shrimp pumpers? I want one. From your old retired teacher/retired drummer friend who only gets to fish a few weeks a year.

That move was pure instinct. Usually I try to look for structure, read the beach, etc, but in that case, it just looked “fishyer”. As for the pump, I got that one on Amazon for $28. Since then I’ve seen them posted for as much as $100. However, if you’re good at building stuff, you can make your own. There are instructions posted online.

Ah yes, 39th Street! Now it is a launching ramp for kayaks and canoes. Once it was used by all sized boats but it has fallen on hard times. Decades ago there was a decent fishing “hole” just to the East (upstream) of this ramp. There was an old metal bed deposited by Hazel in 1954. With time it attracted oysters, barnacles and other Maine growth- we called it “The Oyster Bed.” My brothers and I caught tons of fish there over the years. Also, it is Davis’ Creek at this point since the old Davis’ Creek started just west of the new bridge to OKI. It ran down what is now the ICW to where the Davis Canal empties in the ICW and joined Montgomery Slough and ran by 39th Street and the Big Hill. It joined the Lockwood Folly River at what has been Blue Water Point, and then continued west behind the beach and out to the LF Inlet. Spoil islands bracket the ICW from the current inlet up to the LF River and then from the River up to Pinners Point.

It looked like a good spot from land. I think I’ll need to take a kayak out from there at some point this summer and see what I can find.

HAHAHAHA@ the "endangered" flounder. You fish on the beach, cant keep them, the trawler 150 yards out from you can keep them all.... Uffda! NC politics are screwed up
