Fishing Soft Jerkbaits Fast for Bass with KVD

Here's a great video on how to approach fishing soft jerkbaits when bass are feeding on shad. This system excels when bass are on the feed in cooling and warming waters in the fall and spring.
Baitfish push shallow during the fall months with bass in hot pursuit. In these situations, KVD opts to fish fast with horizontal lures like spinnerbaits as seen in this video. A great follow-up lure to spinnerbaits and crankbaits is a subtler soft jerkbait fished fast. VanDam shows us his preferred rigging of the popular 5'' Strike King Caffeine Shad, and how to work the lure. You definitely want to see this, because it's likely more aggressive than you'd expect.

Nothing beats the caffeine shad for fluke style baits. Killer action and they’re super easy to work if you rig em correctly. I just wish they had a yellow perch color. That’s a major forage species for the bigger fish in my area and the only company I’ve found with a yellow perch imitator is Yamamoto’s d shad. The d shad is great and all...but nowhere near as good as the caffeine shad.

Don’t fish plastic jerk baits much. Just tied one on to a spinning reel with 12 lb braid to a fluoro leader for this weekend. Feedback, good set up or no?
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil, that's a reasonable setup with a light wire hook and smaller bait, say around 4-inches or less. A heavier overall setup is better if you're using a bigger hook (size and gauge) and bait (5-inch). Ultimately, if you're boating fish and not breaking off, you're setup is performing. Hope you had some luck with it.

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

As a constant fisher of blueback lakes, i diagree with his gear. Its mainly a open water technique & distance is important especially when they come up schooling & usually the fish aren't that big. 7'6 is really to long to be twitching & throwing a weight less bait on a mh isnt the best for diatance. I use a 7'2m action with 8lb test and caught a few over 5lbs.

To answer you other question, yes I have a 2005 Triton tr21. I just got it. Before that I had an aluminum Triton that got the job done and can do exactly what kvd is doing in this video. This video is catering more to boaters. Nobody asked you to watch it and make a dumb comment... Basically criticizing him for having a boat lol.

He is so out of touch with real anglers. I truly believe he thinks that every fisherman, has the same stuff at his disposal. I was mainly commenting on that, not that I'm not in a position to now to get a boat of any kind. Also my girl would kill me if I got a boat but that's besides the point.
