A fluke, aka a soft plastic jerkbait, is one of the best lures at catch big bass. There natural action looks extremely realistic to bass in the water which is why they are so popular for fishing.
There are many different ways you can fish a fluke and honestly I don't think that there are any bass ways!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

I mainly bank fish and my favorite way to fish them is kind of a hybrid between the usual method and the senko method. I'll let it sink for 3-5 seconds usually then give it a couple twitches and let it sink back down. It's like a senko but has insane drawing power

Yep thats what I do, I let it go all the way to bottom then dead stick it with a small twitch once and a while. Like a dying baitfish. I never fish a fluke fast or on the surface.

Recommendations on rods for this technique?
@erichthompson1194
@erichthompson1194 Жыл бұрын
@@Christopherjamesmurphy21 I'd go with a medium to medium heavy rod, preferably a medium. I like to use a baitcaster but some people prefer spinning. If you have a baitcast reel that casts light baits well, I'd go with that. I use 12lb line, mono or Fluoro will work. The specific combo I use is a 7'3 M Halo XDIII Pro ($100) and a Shimano SLX MGL 70 ($150)

Another way that gives a great action is on a jig head (I rig them like that below the dam where there’s a lot of current). The ones I use have the weight pretty far forwards and are fairly thin side to side. Do-It molds SHB-5-A and I also have a SHB-5-VA which I can’t find listed anywhere online. It’s the same style as the other one, but with round recesses for adding eyes and it comes in a few different sizes, mainly 1/8 and 5/8 oz, plus the smaller 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 ones use a larger hook than the other mold. That profile lets the fluke kind of dart and keel as the water hits the flat sides of the jig head. Kind of like a crappie tube with the jigs that go inside the tube where you the on about 3/16” back from the nose of the tube. Makes for a great injured / “trapped” Shad presentation while moving through the turbulent current. I also like the “Dead Assassin” flukes, they have a keel and an almost Y shaped profile looking head on. They glide all over the place when you twitch them and kind of flutter down if you hold slight pressure on the line.

I fish it on anywhere between a 1/16 to 1/4 oz weighted hook depending on the current. 1/8 is my preferred weight cause I can use it subsurface and jerk it, or I can let it fall all the way to the bottom and do a combination of Jerking and fishing it like a t rig.

The most effective way to use this lure for me and I've tried everything you've shown here, is to walk the dog. I live on the Pend Oreille River and another technique i use is to throw an un weighted fluke out into the current from slack water and just let the slack line curve around and hold the bait in the current. It'll naturally wave back and forth and entice strikes. I'm targeting fish that are holding in that transition zone between slack and current, rocks and sand.

On a spinning rig i like to stick out my finger, reel quick and sporadic, and let the line slap it. It creates a crazy erratic action. I especially like it for flukes and also killer for senkos. A quick reel with the finger slap makes the lures go crazy.

ah, Ty, you left out the 6th, the one i caught my pb on. the OLD BALL AND CHAIN. the fluke is texas rigged for weedlessness on a carolina rig. i either jerk pop pause or sweep it like the seth fighter, but on a carolina rig. could even use a bobber instead of a weight you fill with water to get it down, but just keep it just offthe bottom. am also a big fan of weightless or a 1/16 weighted hook. makes a good keel and spiral descent. weightless when it hits the bottom i will grab the line just past the reel and pull it to the side and kinda wobble my hand in the line building tension, then release it like a bow and arrow, which can make the fluke jump toward the fish if done properly, triggering a a fight or flight response in the fish. ya feel me? great vid tho. gave me more options. which is good cuz i was a little stagnent on my fluke game.

Drop shot a super fluke jr. on a 2/0 ewg hook. Also put it on a 1/8 or 3/16 oz shakey head beside cover or dock cables, dock posts, or skip it under docks. They skip really well on a shakey head. In addition to the ways you described, a super fluke on a C Rig is always money anywhere in the country. Match the color to the common prey, whether shad or bluegill. In pre spawn, use a red shad color and slay them, just like you'd think of a Rayburn Red for a rattle trap. Something about red in the pre spawn!!

So Tyler, since you know indian lake... I have been curious about the changing water clarity. My whole life I NEVER thought I would be able to see the bottom of indian. Well starting last year (whether its due to zebra mussels, COVID and lesser traffic, temperatures, the new spill way etc.) If it is a nice day, we can now see down to the lakebed on indian. How will this change the reaction/fishing there? I am guessing it might improve the fishing but not sure because the fish are used to muddy and lowViz. Will we need to change up things like bait color or will the same things that worked before still work? Should we spend some money and Experiment on colors that, before, were not as popular there? Change up the line? I am curious as to how it will affect the fishing...?
@BassFishingHQ
@BassFishingHQ 3 жыл бұрын
Well I am no scientist, but in my opinion I think it will make the fishing a little bit tough for a few years because the bass are going to be a lot more spread out than ever before. There is a lot more grass growing on the main lake than there has ever been and so there are more places for the same population of bass to hide. With that being said I believe that the Bass population is going to explode there over the next four or five years. With having that amount of grass on the main lake and good water clarity I believe there’s going to be some great bass spawns and I really think the overall size of bass and population is going to go up. Like I said though, it may take a few years to get there
@ndought

@@BassFishingHQ yeah that makes sense. I did not think about those aspects! I know its a tough lake or at least tough to get a lot of weight so that would be awesome over the next few years if the population could expand. Thanks for the feedback! And keep the awesome content coming!!
