Great video. What is a good sport you would recommend for first time spearfishing and free diving?
@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Catalina Island has a few MPAs that are great for practicing free diving. Water is usually clear and there's so much life. In terms of spearfishing, Crystal Cove is always a great place to start. It's generally an easy sandy entry and there's a good amount of life around. Feel free to reach out on instagram if you have any other questions or need advice! (@catchfishnotfeelingz)

@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT Thanks for the answer, I should have framed the question better. What is a good first time spot for spear fishing in Catalina? I have a boat and will be heading to Cabrillo harbor on the first day and spend the night at Two Harbor on the second day. Thanks for this great channel.
@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT2 жыл бұрын
@@delfersi79 sorry for the late reply! I’ve dove between Long Point and Avalon and I feel like that’s generally an easy place to start. You’ll find fish shallow in the areas. If you’re able to find any coves with some kelp, it’s a good start

Very sweet video bro, I am wanting to get into spearfishing. I been heavy into kayak fishing and now have just snorkeling one time I was like I need to get out there and do some spearfishing. My only concern is my breath holds, that part does scare me a little bit. What was your time when you started and where are you at now with your holds? Any tips on gear and technique?
@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I’d recommend taking an FII Level 1 course or looking to clubs to meet other divers. It helps a lot and you’ll get to practice and learn dive techniques. Spearamerica is a local dive shop that could help you out on gear. For me, it really depends on the day and how comfortable I feel sometimes. When I’m hunting, I’m usually holding my breath between 40sec to 70sec. Definitely learn about shallow water blackout. Your breath hold will get better as you keep going out and get more comfortable in the water. Resting long enough in between your dives is important as well. Hope that helps and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

How did you pack your spear guns for the boat ride to Catalina?
@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The Catalina ferried are pretty lenient about spearguns as long as you cover the tip of the spear shaft. For this trip, we bunches our spearguns together and tied them together. A sport tube wouldn’t be a bad idea as well

What do u have to do to go camping at catalina??
@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT Жыл бұрын
There’s a couple of campsites in Avalon and two harbor. You can reserve online, but I recommend at least 3-4 months in advance. It gets filled up pretty fast. This was at Avalon at Hermit Gulch Campground. You usually have to take the ferry over and bring all your camping gear. There’s a few more campsites that are only accessible by personal boat. Hope that helps!

Hi nice video I been wanting to do that too. How did you book that trip? And the camping? Also do they provide the tent?
@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching! Appreciate the support. So you can book a campsite online! www.visitcatalinaisland.com/lodging/camping/ On this trip, we stayed at Avalon because it was easier to get around. I’d recommend booking a couple of months in advance. They have campsites that have tent cabins that are a little more pricey. Or you can book another campsite and bring your own tent. For the boat rental, Joe’s Rent a Boat is on Pleasure Pier and it’s first come first serve. I believe if you stay at Two Harbors, there might be kayak rentals. Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions. I’m also on Instagram at CatchFishNotFeelingz. Dive safe out there!

@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT yeees I’ll do just that. We are looking to do more adventures. Two harbors side was cool, we didn’t go far and I shot two sheepshead just from the shore. Vis in the early am was beautiful, about 15 ft then dropped to like 6 or 7 at around 8am. Next time wanna get a boat or a kayak and hit the area to the north of the harbor.
