Hey guys I am from Santa Cruz all my family is from there I have not been back there in 30++ years I now live in the panhandle of Florida anyway what's it like there now how is the old fishing Pier I remember going for all the salmon Steelhead and Halibut And How is the old cement ship fishing pier is it still standing
@thesantacruzsurfcaster62314 жыл бұрын
It’s closed at the moment, and even when it was open you could only use about half of the pier. Winter storms keep damaging the support pilings. At this point it’s just a toilet for pelicans
@edderhernandez43673 жыл бұрын
Is there like a weather pattern that you look for or is there like a time a year for striper
@thesantacruzsurfcaster62313 жыл бұрын
Time of year for Striper is definitely late spring and summer. There’s a number of good conditions I look for and the more you can get at once the better. Here’s what I consider in order of importance: fish being caught in the area, high tide, dawn or dusk, calm surf, overcast skies, bait in area, blue/green water.

Isn't the season closed? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) announces the recreational Pacific halibut fishery will close Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 11:59 p.m. for the remainder of 2020. Based on the latest catch projections, CDFW expects the 2020 California recreational quota of 39,000 pounds has been taken.
@thesantacruzsurfcaster62314 жыл бұрын
That is for Pacific Halibut. California Halibut (different species) is open year round. Pacific Halibut are the big 100 pounders they get in Alaska and are pretty much only caught in super deep water north of San Fransisco. These ones only get up to 50 ish pounds and can be caught from Oregon to Baja
