Fishing The East Side of Trinity Bay

Mickey and I decided to try our luck again in Trinity Bay. We had some amazing speckled trout trips recently but on this day the dang wind started to kick not too long after we got out there. The weather people definitely got it wrong. I have been catching lots of specks on popping corks, suspending jerk baits and drop shot worms. We had to cut this day short on the bay BUT on the way home I decided to go fishing at a new spot and I'm sure glad I did!!! It was loaded. You'll just have to watch it!

Hi Lance just started fallowing ya hey buddy I use to fish down there alot haven't been in a while do you put in at Thompson camp or is it still there lol .iam going to start going fishing down there again just trying to see if it's still there .I use to fish in front of the US steel plant and dow s reef .

Hi David. Welcome to the channel! I put in at, Cove/ Gou Hole Road,Fort Anahuac Park or I’ll Launch at Oak Island. I wanna say Thompson is on the Baytown side but I could be wrong 😂 I’ve basically stayed on the East side of the Bay since that’s where I’ve always done the best lol. I know there are fish on that West side but I haven’t figured it out yet.

NOAA has a cool chart of the salinity levels of the Houston area bays and, I clicked on it and much much much to my surprise half of Trinity Bay was color coded under “fresh”. Yes freshwater. The. the western half color coded to salty or brackish. So… totally random thought, could a person go bass fishing in Trinity Bay?

Oh nice! I didn’t know that. I’ll definitely check that out. That’s dang good information to know. Unfortunately I don’t think you’ll catch any bass out there. I’ve been fishing it since I was a kid and never have caught the first freshwater fish there. Now you can catch them pretty good once you make your way around wallisville and further north. I do plan to make a few bass fishing videos over that way eventually. I grew up in this area and love it! It’s really a fishermen’s paradise.

@@lanceduffery cool! Thanks for the info. From the far southwest Htown suburbs so, we always just went down to Freeport and Galveston. Occasionally Bolivar. Haven’t ever had a chance to fish Trinity even though it’s technically about the same distance we drove around to those other places, but east and not south. haha glad I have just discovered your channel.

@@lanceduff ah, yes and my source was, I had just typed “Galveston salinity levels” or “Galveston salinity chart” into the google bar, and the NOAA link just came right up. Just a theory as I am a “re-beginning” angler, lol, but it occurred to me as a curiosity a couple weeks ago after those rains before the heat wave hit hard, and how my dad always talks about no bueno fishing after a big rain because of too much freshwater. And obviously all the rivers empty into the sea. Haha and plus also some of them vids I’ve seen of people catching reds further inland upriver on the Brazos or other rivers, which blew my mind! And plus I caught alligator gar in West Bay once, nowhere near freshwater! Hahaha so, too long comments I apologize but, like, all those things jumble around in my brain and then it occurred to me that those scientist folks probably measure the salinities on the regular for fisheries management and such.

Anytime bud! Oh nice! Freeport is such an awesome area to fish! Especially the jetties! Trinity is okay. You won’t catch any monster trout like you would down south but there are lots of numbers and a good amount of redfish always. The closer you get to Louisiana the better the red fishing gets! Heck yeah! You won’t find any click bait bs on my channel. Its all legit information that will help you catch fish. Eventually I’m gonna make a video on what lures I’ve done great with over in Trinity bay.

Nice! Haha it’s all good I sometimes type a novel too. Yeah I use to think the exact same thing about the rain and saltwater fish. I’ve had some amazing days either right after a rain storm or during a heavy down pour. I love fishing the bays in the rain! Especially Sabine!
