Speckled Trout Fishing In Anahuac Texas

Mickey and I took a morning trip to Anahuac Texas earlier this winter looking for speckled trout. We FOUND the trout in Trinity bay!
We were fishing this marsh drain that's pretty popular. It usually holds redfish, trout, flounder, croakers and whiting.
There were a couple of key areas that was holding fish in this particular spot.
The fish were holding in slack waters close to the current or they were in the swirling current. Both are something to keep in mind if your in a similar situation.
The fish over this way always key on mullet, shrimp and shad that come out of the marsh drains. It’s Definitely something to look for the next time you’re around the Anahuac area.
All of my fish in part 1 came off a popping cork using a Kietech swimbait in the crystal shad color or white. These are saltwater lures that have a squid scent. They were catching them as fast as I could cast.

Oh not at all. Winter is a great time of the year to fish over here! Hopefully next week or the week after I’ll be back out here doing another video. We should start to see bigger trout show up any day now. Thanks I appreciate it.

What type of line are you using? Tell me about your trout set up.. looks like a Successful set up.

I’m using 30lb contra braid on a 7’ medium action castaway rod with a Lew’s spinning reel. On the popping cork I’ve got 15lb fluorocarbon line with either a 1/16 or 1/8oz jig head in this video. It works like a dream! The spinning rod and reel really lets me throw that bait way out there.

He does!!!! It’s so funny! He’s only jumped in twice. The first time was on his very first outing. The second time he had to pee and I drifted up against some grass. He thought it was land and jumped on it. he sunk and when he popped back up he had the oops look on his face. It wasn’t funny at the time but it is now 😂

What I typically do is target three different things for the most part. First is I always look for some kind of marsh drain. The fish are ALWAYS around them whether they bite or not. Lots of bait move in and out of the marsh. Second is I drive around and look for the sea gulls feeding on Shad or shrimp. Chasing the birds is pretty easy but that’s more of a late summer to fall and early winter kind of deal The last thing I do is fish the reefs. Most of the time the reefs are hit or miss. The tide is what makes them good but the fish are always them as well. A good area for you to learn is from oak island to smith point. It has all three things I mentioned above. Just learn where the reefs are. They’re inches under the water some days. You don’t want to hit one. They’ll cause some damage. Good fishing!

Oh yeah I do! We won on Rayburn March of 2021 and the lake caster put us on the cover. I actually got that on video! It’s on the main page of the channel. Definitely check it out! We also won a boat in 2016 and won a Toledo champs in 2015. I love that trail! Best paying one in Texas
