That’s one hell of a walk to the end, gotta love the booby trap boulders that shift and rock when you step on them. I’d hate to take a spill there.

After doing it so many times, it doesn't seem as long anymore. I timed it to 17mins from the boat dock to the end. This is of course walking fast with my eyes looking down at my feet the whole time. I almost ate it here a few times, mostly stepping on algae covered rocks on the lower tide.

I'm surprised there wasn't 947,003 people on the jetty, this must have been a weekday. Nice catch, perfect eatin size.

Yeah Saturdays are jam packed. If you can fine a parking spot, the jetty always has space as most people don't venture past where the the pavement ends. But there's always someone at the very end.

There is just too much pressure there . That place used to be empty I’m not even going to explain how it got like that

If you apply max pressure the halibut is going to come in kind of green ( not very tired )plus its gonna make the halibut freak out . Landings green halibut is tough. Seen big ones like 20 lbers also break off as they dart to escape

Yep. I almost lost that one, it rubbed my mono all over the rocks when it took a swim again. Luckily, the mono didn't break.

@@wellthoughtoutfishing1534 We fish Izorline copolymer as our main line. It has braid weaving for strength and a Monofilament top coat for casting distance and smoothness running through the rods guides. #12 main and #15-25lb on the leader depending on the size grade of the halibut. As for getting the bigger ones to come up easier we use a 10ft medium laqmiglas and 5500 Penn slammers . We were also kind of surprised to hook 2 legal white seabass off the wall this season on Daiwa salt pro lures in lazor sardine color (01) is the color .

@@wellthoughtoutfishing1534 you ever try the shoreline or little pier on the bayfarm side? I see anglers on that little pier a lot, and occasional waders walking up and down the shoreline

I have not. I usually stick to fishing on the ARW as I'm more confident there are legal fish there. Is it any good over there?

@@wellthoughtoutfishing1534 I don't really know, but when I've asked anglers what they are going for, halis, sharks and striped bass come up often. Do you live locally here?

@@osinkboy I live in the East Bay. You know what, yes I use to fish Veterans pier, the other pier across from that too, and crown beach. Lots of people on those piers, so I usually avoid them. That channel in between bayfarm and Alameda is excellent for stripers in the fall.

when is the best month for halibut fishing at rockwall ? can i still catch it now ?
@wellthoughtoutfishing1534
@wellthoughtoutfishing1534 Жыл бұрын
Spring months are the best... April is the unofficial start of the halibut season. Yes, with a lot of effort and some luck, you could hook a keeper. Expect a lot of skunk days though.
@2011campwoodward

after you set the hook you don't need to keep ripping up so hard on the rod. Halibut and flounder have soft cheeks, when you keep ripping up you are ripping the skin around where the hook is set giving the fish more opportunities to shake off. all you have to do is set the hook and keep tension, rod slightly up and reel down on the fish with a consistent reel speed. you aren't trying to lift some sort of wrasse species or grouper away from bottom, its overkill.
@wellthoughtoutfishing1534
@wellthoughtoutfishing1534 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Fishing from the jetty, this is the best technique. If I was drifting on a boat for halibut, then what you said would be the better technique. Different technique for different scenarios. If you let the halibut dip it's head down at the ARW, it'll swim you into the weeds and rock.
@2011campwoodward
@2011campwoodward 2 жыл бұрын
@@wellthoughtoutfishing1534 I fish jetties, boats, and kayaks. It’s overkill. Once the fish is up you keep tension on the line and reel down to the fish lifting up slowly. Not ripping up on the fish. It’s overkill and you look like a TikTok bass fisherman setting the hook lol.
