Chris, what a gorgeous spot in the high country. Can't beat days like that. Sometimes you have to give a little blood to the fishing gods, even if it's to mosquitos. Great filming too. Felt very Zen-like up there.

These kinds of days really are a dream. I've found that the fish are usually cruising the banks, so Tenkara is definitely effective. Stunning scenery and video!

Interesting! I'd heard that before but like I said, I barely ever fish stillwater so I just don't know. I'm sure a conventional western fly rod would open up a lot of opportunities by being able to get out just a bit further. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of fish I caught! Thanks for watching man.

Thanks so much for the kind comment. I probably made it seem even more remote in the video that it was - there was a few people around :) Love alpine lakes! Can't wait to get back.

That was awesome and thank you 🙌🏻 I don't know all the terminology of video making, but yours are friggin amazing!! I loved that location, as it reminds me of the Sierra Nevada where I live. So beautiful and peaceful. Stoked seeing you enjoy it so much!! Hopefully there might be more high alpine adventures in your future?

Lol! Not sure if you've tried longer line or not? I forgot to mention earlier, for more reach I will also use up to 20' line and 4' tippet on a Hellbender if the surroundings cooperate. I'm still pretty new at it, but did western fly fishing years back. I definitely enjoy tenkara more, but still western fly fish with my son once in a while. Stay stoked and thanks again for the awesome content 🤙🏻

Longer level lines is something I definitely need to play around with more ... this certainly would have been the place to do it, too. Maybe next time! Thanks for the comments!
@philhlee Жыл бұрын
Loved this video! What made you decide to take the Kita out there over your Yari, Teton, or other longer rods?
@FlickyFlies Жыл бұрын
Hey Phil! I like the Kita's mid flex profile a lot, although the fiberglass Yari might have been even more fun. However, it's slightly shorter than my Kita 380. The ideal rod would have been a really long and light seiryu rod! The lightest and longest rod I have just happens to be the Kita.

Flicky, so how do trout get up to those mountain top lakes?
@FlickyFlies Жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the specific history here but certainly there was some stocking at some point, or perhaps they made their way up the creek and then once there thrived in the lakes.
@garrydurfey9700 Жыл бұрын
I know, well, have read, that here in Colorado there was extensive stocking way back when and still some. Read it was by foot, horseback, plane, etc.

I’ve been waiting for the day I’d see you or Tenkara Addict fish some water I’d fished. I hiked 12 miles around that range, wound up working up that outflow creek to the lake. Too many to count in the creek, some bigger ones in the lake. Temps dropped fast on the mountain side of that lake.
@FlickyFlies Жыл бұрын
Hey Nathan, that's really cool! Obviously I don't mention where my videos are filmed but I know from experience how fun it is to watch another fisherman's video when you know the location they are at. Always feels like seeing it through a different lens. How far down did you fish the creek? As you saw, I think I only got maybe a quarter mile or so down from the outlet. I'd like to know how it looks a couple miles down.
@NathanSeibt Жыл бұрын
I fished that outflow creek from where the trail crosses it about .6 miles downstream, near the other headwaters of the river named after that mountain range. I also fished the creek flowing out of the deep lake 1.7 miles NNE of the lake you fished. The creek to the NNE had some larger brookies in it. I also love the creeks on the east side of that range, just inside the forest.

You waded out so you could reach the fish and boom! I started with tenkara, still carry a rod with me, but I also have a fly rod and most of the time a euro nymping rod. Why can't anglers do it all? Is there some rule, that you have to only fish one style? I'm I the only one who's brave enough to cross the line. If you love tenkara try euro nymping, it's the same technique with 30' of reach. It casts the same way. George Daniels who's one of the top euro nymping guys in the country also fish's with a tenkara rod.. I feel so many anglers are limiting there self by only choosing one way to fish. In small streams, with wild fish I use the tenkara I can lay a fly on the water so much softer.
@FlickyFlies Жыл бұрын
Love your outlook my friend! How do you feel tenkara compares to a big keiryu or longer rod? I compare a lot of the nymphing I do on long tenkara rods (say 15 feet) with euronymphing. I assume it feels similar, but perhaps with even more drag free reach. In the end it's all down to the subtleties, I'm sure. I've seen some of George's tenkara videos - super cool! Thanks for dropping by!
