Perch are actually amazing eating - if from clean water. In Lake Geneva they serve them up from the lake filleted and fried in butter with French fries. Also, if you have permission of water owner, you can take a daily limit of about 7 small fish for the pot (not many do these days)

@@TheBudgetAngler it may be some didn’t understand that the reason you were surprised they were eating the perch is because of pollution and the fish not being fit to eat. I caught your comment about people doubting If the river was active, or “thriving.” Plus, your comment here about the fish being a bit deformed. Fish can can hold a lot of toxins in their flesh. I’ve stopped eating farm raised fish. It’s disgusting how they are farmed; extremely disgusting.

Great sport with the perch. My best fish I ever caught when I use to go fishing was a monster perch along the lea at ponders end, caught on the biggest worm I ever dug up. Thirteen and half inches long 5.5 inch broad. Dwarfed all the good perch I'd ever caught before and I'd had some real gooduns too. A big perch is the biggest of them all. It's true. Thought I'd hooked s carp it took two goes to catch it. Tore off to the far bank before nailing it. Best moment of my fishing career ever.

We have a lot of issues in my part of London with people taking Carp and Bream for the pot, definitely an education issue. Regarding Perch, they used to be stocked in the Middle Ages in the ponds run by the monasteries and the Monks used to have them for the pot. They taste great apparently but I couldn't bring myself to do so, wouldn't want to harm these stunning fish.

Parch are fantastic eating fish. Baffles me why people don’t keep and eat. Nothing better than eating your own catch. Or maybe you’d rather nip to the chippy and grab yourself some cod that’s been caught in huge numbers from trawling?! It’s perfectly legal. Just check the local bylaws.
@TheBudgetAngler3 жыл бұрын
Interesting thought, and I agree with you sentiment about the trawling the sea beds for everything. It's not perfectly legal to remove fish from the Canals though or anywhere else without permission. It's Theft under the Theft Act 1968 as is fishing without permission. Some rivers have a catch and keep limit, but that doesn't Trump fishery rules even if fishing rights are leased from the E.A or a private person or organisation. Legality aside It's also not very sustainable in highly pressured urban areas like East Lonon.

Well a lot of foreigners do eat the fish the get from the lea lol. I still remember years ago when they stocked Finsbury Park up with some big carp & other things... All cleaned out in two weeks by people jumping the fence at night and stealing them. I think Its just common sense... Generations of people have grown up throwing the fish that they catch back into the river. The lea isnt very clean to begin with. The Environment/fisheries Agency will probably want to know that people are eating the fish no doubt. WIth some people, they eat the fish in the rivers where they come from so they do the same in the UK because nobody has told them not to. Absolute madness.
