The general public who eat farmed salmon are part of the problem, they still seem to think that eating fish is a healthy option, even though it's farmed fish they are eating which is full of chemical dye and pesticides! It takes five tons of pelleted fish to produce one ton of salmon, which is madness!! Well done Iain!!!

Thank you for your comment Simon. I gets to me sometimes when I see diseased salmon and everything points to fish farms and Marine Scotland just shrug there shoulders and SEPA ,s hands are tied by a government that are blinkerd into thinking that they are getting 1 billion pounds a year into the economy just because the fish farms tell them ...

I enjoy your 'rants' Iain cos you make some really valid points. It's a pity that those sitting in their ivory towers don't take more notice. The evidence is difficult to argue against but sadly a 'sport/hobby is not a priority for them. What they fail to grasp is that their lack of appreciation of the issue has a far reaching impact on the environment way beyond our salmon......Scotland wouldn't be the same without a good heavy downpour now and again and we should expect more in the years ahead........my rant is now over!!
@IainSB5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the confirming rant Mr Mazo .. I believe that there are more fish suffering from disease that the fisheries are afraid to confirm because of the impact with returning anglers but unless there are a lot of complaints I feel no action will be taken by our so called environmental protection quangos ... Hey Iain, love your videos as usual. I was actually thinking of fishing Meikleour and Upper Islamouth this week coming, hoping to take advantage of the bump in water levels. I get the sense that it’s more of a spinning beat though and I’m keen to fish the fly only. Is that right? Otherwise I was thinking about Kercock which looks like better fly water. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!
@IainSB2 ай бұрын
I think that Meikleour fly fishing is more suitable from the boat as you can cover more water Lloyd the river is very wide and bank fishing is more suited to spinning. Garry at Kercock has more bank fly water and I think that it would be a better day out Cheers Iain. 🥃

Hi Paul I may be a bit biased but i do find that the scenery near any river is something to behold . its strange when the likes of seal has disease that you have so many come rushing out the undergrowth to mollycoddle them and if there was a flue epidemic amongst the beavers how much money would be wasted . because there is so much money involved in fish farming our wild salmon are suffering towards extinction ...... please excuse another RANT!

Hi John I have seen a video that showed the problemes that salmon had with fish farms off Vancouver Island and it seems that your government have taken the same attitude as ours in Scotland. the amount of revenue that is bought into the areas where salmon fishing is a sport far outweigh the revenue that is brought in from salmon farms . I think that you have the same issues with ownership of salmon farms being mostly Norwegian or offshore companies . the practises that salmon farms use are not tolerated in Norway and many have been prosecuted and find and they find it is easier to get licences in other countries. I hope that governments waken up and see the problems that are caused with salmon faming because its not for the amount of times they have been told by scientists and other experts Tight lines Cheers Iain 🥃

Good day! I enjoy watching your videos. And now I’m already ripe for a trip to Scotland. I heard that in your country all the rivers are private and that fishing is very expensive. My wife and I are from Russia and we have enough salmon rivers, but this is not a family vacation. Often these are great fishing in the wild but for egoists. Is it possible for a young couple to visit Scotland in October and catch salmon in local rivers without huge prices?
@IainSB5 жыл бұрын
HI Vitaly Thank you for you comment and I am glad that I have given you the incentive to come to our country... The back end runs of salmon are not as good as they use to be but you can still pick up some silver fish on some rivers . The river tweed is possibly your best chance but there are quite a few other rivers such as the rivers Nith. and Tay. What I would advise you to do is look on the fishpal web page and they give catch returns for a lot of rivers and advice and prices for fishing. if you wanted to fish the river Tweed in October you can look at fishpal and book several days on beats that are not that far apart and work out a budget... I am a a bit biased as you may have seen my videos at Cardrona on the river Tweed and a lot of them are recorded in October and November.. the price in October is £75 . Tight lines .. Salmon farms mean money, unfortunately it’s dirty money and Hollyroodj turn a blind eye. Natural Resources Wales did the same on the Welsh Dee, my local river, as soon as the took over from the EA they closed the hatchery. The reason being that a study showed that releasing reared fish was detrimental to wild stocks, they closed the hatchery and sold it off as it was quite a nice property, later they admitted that the study was based on a Canadian river and was irrelevant to the Dee. No heads have rolled and the Welsh Assembly have no control over NRW. Everybody now refers to it as Not Really Working.

As you say Richard its all about the money, the Scottish government have more revenue coming in from salmon farming than sheep farming so its a case of who cares about wild stocks.It looks like the less you know about the jobs created by government the better your chances of getting a job. Hi again Mr K . From what I have been told only rivers that have problems with extremely low salmon stock are going to be allowed to have hatchery fish ........ for me that is most of the rivers in Scotland . rivers such as the Garry are included but I don,t think there are any others on the Tay. it is strange that there does not seem to be any great problem with hatchery farmed salmon escaping in there tens of thousands and spreading disease amongst our wild fish.

Farmed salmon. The public need educating, let them see some of the underwater horror videos of farmed fish being eaten away by sea lice. These facts are hidden by the authorities, all part of the profit at any cost policy that they are ordered to adopt. Too many people talking and not doing, time for them all to get together, stand outside supermarkets, issue leaflets, go on marches and let the people know how by buying farmed salmon they are destroying the environment and endangering lives.
