Always liked a 3way rig. One way we use to fish for Crappie is a 3 way one side a short leader on a weight and we were so cheap we would get cheap packs of snelled bait holder hooks and attach them to the remaining leg of the swivel.put twister tail on. Watch the fish finder and drop down and crappie, bass, gills, catfish and a musky. We did not have pike. See the way you do it will catch fish. Will try on walleyes. Gotta love 3 way rigging.

Usually you see a heavy bucktail jig at the bottom - the Wolf River Rig, as Ive come to know it. This is an interesting variation. Thanks Jim Shell. You carry the torch, very well. David S Carolina

Jim this was excellent. How about a video on how you rig for lakes with zebra mussels, they are down here in Texas now. Thanks for all you do.

@StructureFishing Жыл бұрын
I've caught plenty of crappies on the crank and the trailer with the 3-way. If you mean Braidwood Lake, no. I've never seena crappie caught from there.

My 15 y.o. son really wants to catch a pike. We fish Mendota quite a bit and do well with small mouth, walleye, and occaisionally get into white bass or rock bass by accident. However, we haven't ever come across pike. Watching your other videos it looks like you are using this 3-way setup with a spoon in 18-25' of water. What size spoon do you need to keep the lures down while trolling? Are you using any other type of weight or lead core? Thanks, and great videos!
@StructureFishing2 жыл бұрын
I'm using a deep diving crankbait or spoonplug. The BIG pike in Mendota are usually caught 22' to 32' deep. So you need a crankbait that you can run to get that depth. For the trailer, any light weight trolling spoon. I usually use a mid size spoon, and catch walleye/white bass and smallies. The Pike will typically hit the bigger crank. There are several arese to target, but a consistent pike producer is straight out from Tenny launch/lock and work the 22ft to 3oft depths both ways. This has been a late summer, but peak time for the pike should be right now thru end of August. Good Luck!

What percent of the time do you use a three way ? Seasonal preferences , do you ever use other lures on the trailer ? Sorry so many questions
@StructureFishing3 жыл бұрын
Can't really put a % on it. Depends on the lake & species. A lake with many snags, hardly ever use it. Mostly use it when I'm fishing lakes with white bass/wipers, smallmouth and walleyes. As I mentioned other than a twister tail, a spoon would be good for tout/salmon and walleyes too.
