I tried this J-Braid Grand plus leader and I was blown away by the excellent cast-ability! I had to re-learn how to cast, to keep from always landing way past my target. BUT I fish in shallow waters with rocky bottom and I quickly learned that this braid is very susceptible to abrasion! I lost leaders 3 times. Now I am searching for a more abrasion resistant braid. Will try Berkley FireLine next

Sufix 832 is a great line. Only issue you will find is it is way thicker. I moved to their 6lb and 8lb for general purpose spinning, had to go to their Nanobraid, X9, or J-Braid Grand for UL/Light duties. Sufix was great and strong, works for a BFS reel too, but way to thick to chunk tiny lures with a spinning reel.

I’ve had poor luck with 10# J-Braid on spinning gear. It seems too supple and becomes very susceptible to wind knots after a break-in period around 6 months of mod/heavy use. Most wind knots occur within the line guides and are a real pain. This problem accelerates quickly and really ruins a day. I’ve walked out my line to lessen line twist and reeled back up with BPS line conditioner on a lint free cloth. Nothing helps. I’ve mostly gone back to 4-6# mono for my finesse fishing. I use spinning gear exclusively and mostly 2000-3000 size reels. I do a lot of pond fishing with with heavy vegetation. You mentioned 832, I have a lot of that but it’s noticeably stiffer in 20-30# and better suited for heavier lures. I have 1 reel spooled with Stren Superline 20#, which was my first braid ever and is finally getting replaced after 5 years. That was on my main rod and used heavily the first 3 years and lightly the past couple years. Blows my mind it’s lasted that long and isn’t more popular, but the color selection isn’t very good. Mine is white with a 14# mono leader.

Thank you very much for the perspective. I will keep my eyes out on my line options and update everyone if I notice any changes. So far, I am still quite pleased with J-Braid. Ultimately, gear is all about finding something that fits your style and makes you confident.

Do you fish with braid straight up to the lure or topping mono floro leader?
@FishAnything Жыл бұрын
I use a CoPolymer leader. Usually Yo Zuri Hybrid or Trilene Sensation

I wanted to keep using ultralight for bass but I think a light will be better as I usually don't go under 1/16 oz. Do you think.6lb braid still go well with wacky worms and weightless Texas rigs (5inch worms)? Also my reel can hold about 200yds of 4lb mono, so should I get 300yds of 6lb braid and put some backing on my reel?
@FishAnything Жыл бұрын
If you intend to toss that heavier stuff, I’d go Medium Light with 10lb braid. Use cheap mono backing on your reel and you shouldn’t ever need more than one spool of 150yds of braid.
@ptasker1526 Жыл бұрын
@@FishAnything how much backing do you think for a 3000 size reel? Maybe 80yds of 8lb mono backing then 150yd 10lb braid?

Do you think the Island Blue color is similar visibility or is Chartreuse still best for high viz?
@FishAnything2 жыл бұрын
Island blue is totally fine! Cool color :)
@Joe-bh4vz2 жыл бұрын
Blue sucks if your water is blue like it is sometimes here in the Gulf Coast. Chartreuse is best for high viz because green is the color most visible to human vision.

What is the difference between daiwa 8x grand and regular 8x ?

Do you feel the leader line helps? I have been using direct tie with hi viz but recently tied a mono fluro coated leader recently, and will see if that makes a difference.
@FishAnything2 жыл бұрын
I am personally a big believer in the leader line. I think it attracts bites from smarter fish (larger generally) and I also think it helps absorb the hookset a bit. Braid is so dang strong and has no stretch. Offsetting that no stretch with a little mono helps with the smaller hooks in my opinion.

6lb for ultralight, 10lb for finesse bass, 40-50lb for topwater bass fishing on heavy equipment.

Just a little bit of a note to people, if you have a rod rated say at PE 1.2 to PE 2 and are looking at the daiwa braids go by the diameter as daiwa PE ratings are all over the place. PE ratings should be based on diameter of said braid, the market is so backwards and i wish all the makers on braid should use the same diameter to rate PE lines. Daiwa PE 2 is more like 1.2 @ 0.190 which PE 1.2 has a diameter of 0.185 Also J Braid Grand is decent with no wind knots or tip wraps.

Ok, I bought a new TFO trout and panfish rod after watching your video. I was in the market for a new pole so 👍. This video caught my eye since I am new to braid. Just ordered some so 👍👍. BUT, I think watching your videos is getting expensive. I also ordered a new reel to get a larger diameter spool to eliminate the little issues I had last time out with my current braid. Please stop, I may have to unsub your channel. Can’t afford you 😆 Looking forward to slamming the smallies this weekend with the new setup 👍👍👍

old town boats are good boats but too heavy to portage all above 50 lb at age 69 and 1/4 mile portages or longer just too heavy .Many nice 25 pound solo canoes but $2300 or more. I am screwed
@FishAnything2 жыл бұрын
Hmm a solo hike with a canoe would be tough. I will say that this one is pretty easy to rest on your shoulders and carry over-head, but if you want something in the neighborhood of 25lbs, I am not sure what the best option is. Pros and cons to all boats. The light stuff usually gets blown around like crazy.

Never fish braid without a floro or mono leader. Braid has literally zero abrasion resistance under tension.
@FishAnything2 жыл бұрын
It is very interesting how something so strong and straight tension can snap when you put some abrasion against it. Basically want to avoid using it around sharper mussels and whatnot. I have found that it doesn't seem to get much abrasion in most of my weedy, soft-bottom lakes.
