Fishing With Jimmy Houston: BFS Fishing With a Legend

I recently went fishing with legendary angler Jimmy Houston. Learned a ton about the fishing industry and had a blast fishing with Jimmy.
We did a team approach to find fish. Jimmy used a Luck E Strike Redman Spinnerbait and I was using a variety of soft plastics using BFS tackle. Once the sun came out and we patterned the fish to be around cover in the shade, we caught many fish tucked under docks.
Skipping finesse jigs under docks with the Phenix Classic BFS and Shimano Conquest BFS was my most productive pattern. Jimmy was flipping in the small gaps between boats and docks to get hidden fish.

I had the pleasure meeting Mr. Jimmy Houston on March 27, 2024; at the grand opening of Bass Pro Shops Irvine, CA. I've watched Jimmy through the years and when I found out he and Roland Martin would be at the grand opening, I was thrilled. Yes his laugh is his signature and such a cool, nice guy. I wish I thought of bringing one of the stuffed pillow largemouth bass when I met him and he could have kissed the bass. Another signature Jimmy Houston. Also met Skeet Reese, Chris Zaldain and Josh Bertrand at the grand opening. So cool to find a vid of yours fishing with Jimmy!

I went fishing with Jimmy again this year. We got into some big smallmouth. He is a great guy and fun to hang out with.

@HobieWanKenobi Yes, he is a very active and involved individual, which I believe keeps him going. My father is 82, and he was out running a big Stihl chainsaw & a John Deere trackor clearing brush today. I hope I can still get around the way they do at 80+...

Hobie that’s always been a dream of mine to fish with Jimmy. I’ve watched him on TV sense I was a kid. I’m proud you were able to fish with such a prominent name in the fishing industry. For me personally this is one of your best videos yet.

It was cool. Oddly, the celebrity part was nothing. He is a chill guy and is easy to talk with. Only difficult part was getting him to answer questions concisely 😂. We were filming for his show and this video was from the scraps of sorts 😂

I had the unique pleasure of meeting Jimmy when I was a kid at BPS in Florida. He autographed a copy of one of his early books. Hobie, did he make fun of your BFS gear? I noticed he was going heavy. Thank's for the Video.

He didn't. He did switch over the a weightless senko style bait after a while. Other than that frog and a topwater, I used a Jackson Egu jig.

Hi, could you recommend the rod for stream fishing? Requirements: Length 4.6-5.1, up to 8g, action probably mod/mod-fast Not sure about glass/carbon, but should be comfortable for minnow lures 2.8-5.5g, trout spoons 2-5g, cranks up to 4g and the main: it should be travel ( closed legth 50-52cm max) I was looking on Smith Multiyouse TRMK-C463L, but it's glass and I'm not sure it's suitable for my requiremetns. And the rod should be pretty powerful, last time in Finland i cought the trout about 2.7kg and she broke my Lurestar rod :(

Glass will give you more durability and versatility with lure casting than carbon. Closed legtj of 52cm may be challenging with that power. I really like the Daiwa Silver Creek Glass Progressive 51LB. Has plenty of power and casts nice. Also gives you fun with a variety of sized fish. It only packs down to 78cm

I don't think he was 😂. He didn't know about BFS and at his stage in his life, I don't think he has the time to learn it. He has a bunch of businesses and is traveling all the time.
