Great review. I currently own a Dobyns 701. Mainly used for multi species up here in northern CA. The stats on Phenix would tell me it’s a more stiffer rod but based on your comments/review you mention it is less stiff than the Dobyns which is what I’m looking for. I’ve been throwing a lot of in-line spinners for trout and felt like the stiffness of the Dobyns wasn’t allowing the fish to fully engulf the bait. Lots of short strikes. I might have to pull the trigger on a Phenix based on your review. Once again great video.

sorry for late reply, yes youre right! currently opted to use the phenix with my moving baits, and all my bottom contact baits are now fished with my dobyns. i find whipping around the phenix, its more enjoyable for a bass rod.

Mine just came less than 15 min ago because of your video I’m a Phoenix guy I have two mirage rods, a dragonfly, and five feather casting rods I did not even know phoenix made this until I watch this video. I have two Dobyns BFS rods. I can’t wait to try out the Phoenix with an alderbaran

oh bro so jealous of the aldebarren! the phenix classic bfs easily replaced the ever so famous dobyns micro finesse in my arsenal. its got the whippyness of a ultra light rod, yet stout enough for bass, and its way super sensitive as well!

As a BFS bass, panfish, trout, and ice fisherman. There is no reason ever be using 2lbs unless you just want to be breaking off all day long. Quality grade 6 lb fluorocarbon will absolutely get the job done out a hiccup and the fish 110% do not react to any differently than it would 2lbs.

I just bought this rod. It's my first BFS rod 😂 I was going to get a Dobyns, but saw this rod at a local tackle shop. It feels lighter than the Dobyns. I have the spinning Dobyns Sierra rod for trout fishing.

congrats on the phenix man, you will love it. yes i prefer this over the dobyns. so much more sensitive too. i kinda just use the dobyns for heavier bfs presentations now in the 1/16oz to the 1/4oz bottom contact stuff.

yeah its good lil lake, not like lake perris of course (lake perris is like 10x the size of sfd). and i only see boats idle speed through here. perfect kayak lake though. but yea theres a healthy bass population here. come out!

I have the dobyns ultra finesse and this phenix BFS. I boat flip 3lbers with my dobyns. Would've even dare with the phenix. That tip is way to fragile.

@@TommyTheStriker youre absolutely right bro. I actually flipped my kayak couple months ago, the phenix rod tip snapped, and the dobyns survived 🤣. after a year ownership on the phenix, id rather prefer the dobyns for its all around versatility.0

hi Matt, i have found the 1/15oz micro ned head to be the most versatile in fishing close to the bank and down to about 15ft deep. the color is bumblebee! 🤙🏽

yes absolutely! uses less cork material in the hand grip. the dobyns feels more stout.

Love bfs an phenix man but gbey fucke up. Shouldve made the rod lighter bro. In my eyes. Like other true bfs rods. That able to cast mini jigs 1/32 ounce size an up an 1lb to 6 pound test.
